Savoury pancake ideas

If you do savoury pancakes what toppings do you add?

I usually have cheese, mushroom, and spinach. Thinking of adding a hash brown this year.

Egg, chorizo? Wouldn’t want hash browns on top of a pancake, although DS might disagree!

Bacon mushrooms and golden syrup for me

MrsDoylesTeacup · 17/02/2026 07:05

We do sweet and savoury - bacon, apple and maple syrup.

Hash browns go with anything! I had a cheese, mushroom, spinach and hash brown croissant at Christmas which has given me the idea to add them to my pancakes

I like cashew, leek, spinach and gruyere

namechangeformeeee · 17/02/2026 07:11

I do seafood ones - so basically like fish pie filling served on a pancake!

Apple slices or compote?

I usually have a couple of savoury ones and then sweet ones for pudding

I was coming on to say cheese, mushrooms and spinach! It's my absolute favourite.

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 17/02/2026 07:50

Sounds nice - do you have a recipe?

This year we’re going seriously off piste and doing halloumi, cabbage and fennel (because that’s what’s in the fridge) in buckwheat pancakes. Will probably chop up some dill and olives TBH not sure how it will go but in theory as we like all the elements and they go together it should be fine?!

usually we do cheddar, mushrooms and spinach.

obvs lemon and sugar for dessert, DD has strawberries and squirty cream

Not a recipe as such but I pre cook the mushrooms with a little bit of butter, salt, pepper(sometimes a squeeze of lemon)then cook the first side of the pancake as normal, flip it over then top with the spinach, mushrooms and grated cheese before folding in half and serving. The heat from the pan and mushrooms is enough to wilt the spinach and melt the cheese a bit.

I layer pancakes with spinach and ricotta, and a rich tomato sauce, then top with mozzarella and bake in the oven until the top is browned and bubbling! My boys prefer savory to sweet 😊 also can add chopped spinach and sundried tomatoes to a thick fluffy pancake batter and serve with crispy bacon and a poached egg.

I enjoy a ham and cheese crepe but this time I’ve made Asian-style veg pancakes (they’re more like rosti with batter, use cabbage and carrot etc). Crisp and delicious with a soy-chilli-sesame dipping sauce!

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 17/02/2026 19:42

Had mozzarella, parma ham and asparagus which was really nice but I had the cat looking at me with big eyes the whole time (after the ham).

We have various types of cheese, ham, chorizo, mushrooms, spinach, olives, fried eggs, and everyone chooses which elements they prefer.

I like ham, Gruyère, spinach, and fried egg with plenty of black pepper.

Dd likes manchego, chorizo, spinach and olives.

DH prefers 4 cheese and mushroom with chilli flakes.
