I have the ingredients to rustle up some pancakes fortunately, but the toppings! No Nutella or equivalent. No lemons. No whipping cream. There's a sorry looking solitary banana.

I'm going to have stop somehere tomorrow.

So consoder this your very last minute reminder!

Jakers really. DH does the food shopping. Surprised he hasn't noticed this year.

slaintebab · 16/02/2026 23:33

So glad I saw this! I could’ve sworn we still had weeks to go!

FourForksSake · 16/02/2026 23:35

That explains why the egg shelves in two supermarkets were bare!

Clefable · 16/02/2026 23:37

Yes we all have to get up early so we can have pancakes for breakfast as we can’t in the evening due to schedule! We do have toppings at least but now I wish I had pre-made the batter. But I’m in bed so meh.

SpaceOP · 16/02/2026 23:37

We are usually banana pancake or French style crepe people in this house but I just spent 10 minutes reading a hilariously detailed article on American style pancakes in this months BBC Good Food and I have to say, I think thats tomorrow's lunch sorted (I'm WFH, kids are on half term, dh on early shift and back by lunch....). Im committed to making buttermilk and whipping wgg whites separately!

gototogo · 16/02/2026 23:37

I meant to pick up a banana but I’m the only one who likes bananas, lemon and sugar preferred by dh and ds. We are also having spinach, mushroom and ricotta stuffed pancakes

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 16/02/2026 23:39

No jam? No ice cream? Ice cream is fabulous on pancakes!

Fluffy American pancakes recipe

This easy American pancake recipe makes light and fluffy pancakes that are great for a weekend brunch. Serve with maple syrup and maybe a bit of bacon.

We are ready. Savoury for me, Nutella for DD. Bananas and squirty cream also at the ready.

There might be some jam! But no ice cream.

But now I think about it, I might have some ice cream sauce left over somewhere!

Also forgot - I’m telling the kids we are doing it on Thursday so they can plan toppings

ThroughTheRedDoor · 17/02/2026 05:47

I just haven't really seen anything about it this year. Mind you, I haven't been in a regular supermarket this year, I swapped to Lidl and Aldi, maybe they don't make the same end of aisle fuss about it?

If I make pancakes then they always have savoury fillings / toppings. Cheese sauce, mince and onion, chopped tomatoes.

Oneandanotheroneistwo · 17/02/2026 05:51

My 4yo LOVES pancakes so there's no way she'd let me forget 😆. I've promised her I'll make them for breakfast. We've got bacon, maple syrup, lemon, sugar, nutella, squirty cream and various fruits.

Jellybunny56 · 17/02/2026 05:56

I’ll send my toddler to you for next year OP. She heard about it from a lady in Tesco last week and has asked me approximately 500 times since then if TODAY is pancake day. She is going to absolutely lose her little mind when she finds out today is finally the day😂😂😂

MinnieMountain · 17/02/2026 05:59

Thanks for the reminder OP. I can use up some of the pile of eggs that DH didn't use before he went away.

Philandbill · 17/02/2026 05:59

We're ready, we almost always have family join us, I love pancake day. Savory and sweet here 😁

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 17/02/2026 06:41

Can you do savoury pancakes?

TheChosenTwo · 17/02/2026 06:45

We did ours last night because everyone’s out tonight and I’m up and out early this morning before the dc will get up!
First time ever I’ll have gone to work on pancake day not smelling of fried butter 🤣

madaboutpurple · 17/02/2026 18:03

My DH likes banana slices and ice cream, I prefer sugar and lemon and maple syrup.

Can you do savoury pancakes?

It's the same batter as Yorkshire puddings so yes.

I quite like to make a cheese sauce (sometimes with herbs and / or garlic and / or onions).

Take a pancake, add the sauce to one side, flip over and I put them back in the oven for 5-10 mins to crisp up.

They also freeze well, just as pancakes and also with a filling.

My mother always served pancakes with Lamb stew. You got the pancake first and poured some of the stew 'gravy' over it, once the pancakes were gone the stew was dished up on to the same plates.
