I can't see why you shouldn't do that.
Fancy restaurants usually specialise in everything on the menu including the desserts.
What if you went in at tea time and you only wanted to have a fancy dessert?
I hardly think that they're not going to let you order it and enjoy it and pay for it if you don't order a meal as well?

Nope, as long as they are happy to give you a table just for that - I think it's a fun idea.

Ive done it before at a very fancy place and also had cocktails with it. They seated us on the bar tables rather than the main tables but didn’t mind at all

Would depend how fancy and how busy they were, I think. If it's mid afternoon and it's really quiet I should think it would be OK. Make it dessert, glass of wine and/or coffee to make it a bit more of an order.

I think in a posh and busy restaurant they might be a bit sniffy about it as you would stop them serving a customer eating a full meal. So might be worth ringing and asking what time - for example 5.30/6pm might be quieter…
Having said that there is nothing they could really do! I’m just thinking of how you could be reassured.

What restaurant and can we see menu to pick with you in spirit?! I want a proper dirty martini with olives to start

FreddysFingers · 15/02/2026 19:21

Yes, yes and yes!

  1. It's a great way of trying fancy food.
  2. Easier on the purse strings. 3)You get to dress up. You could do a bottomless brunch, then go into the fancy restaurant and have the dessert ;).

Do it!
