Feeling guilty but still not well

I've been ill for the last six weeks, for four solid weeks I had a cold that wouldn't shift, I didn't feel too unwell to work and carried on going in. During this time I developed a cough again didn't bother me massively. I had a doctors appointment and they said it was viral.

Last weekend I began to feel really unwell I felt like I had Covid or the Flu. Was prescribed antibiotics after visiting the GP and had the week off work.

I had planned on returning tomorrow but I still feel weak and tired and out of sorts. My GP did say they would give me a for note if I needed one after 7 days of self certifying. My job is very full on and there is no time for taking it easy.

Im so torn about just buckling down and going in or taking a for note from the GP and looking after myself. I've attempted some chores today and I feel absolutely exhausted just from doing that.

Ring in sick… if you’re struggling whilst still at home then you’re not going to manage going back whilst still not right.

You've already tried to struggle through, which has probably added to your illness!.
Take the week and give your body time to recover and get better. Obviously don't know what you do for work but it's highly likely the world won't end because your not there!

Take time off. Good for your health and not passing things on.

My work is active and not a sedentary seated job. The world definitely won't end if I'm not there, I feel bad for letting people down but I also know I won't get any medals for returning when I'm still not 100% bevause no one really gives a toss.

I just feel like because I've already had a week off I should really return tomorrow. My body aches so much though still and I'm a so tired.

@Papajohnsisontheway No point being a martyr for work.

Take the time off. My DH had this over Xmas. Wiped him out for about 4 weeks all in. Just rest up as much as possible. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. I really hate having to make the call and I tear myself up worrying about not being in.

I can't stress how important it is, that you listen to your body. Your body is telling you, that you aren't well. No job is worth making yourself worse, and then having to take even longer off work. Call in work sick tomorrow, contact your GP for a Fit Note. Take the week off, and get better, so that you go back to work fully fit.

I know you are right I just can't shake the feeling of guilt for being off. I honestly feel so washed out and tired still.
