Gold paint to touch up bathroom hardware?

I know this should be in DIY/Decorating but hoping to pop to Homebase today so wanted quick responses.

We have brushed gold hardware in one of our bathrooms and three years in it is all tarnished and the popup waste plug thingy has been worn away by cleaning products.

Has anyone touched up hardware with paint? The original hardware was described as 'brushed gold'. It's a warm gold without being antique or rose. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Will it not just all Wash off again pretty quickly?

Metal is usually plated or anodised.the coating is electrically applied. Brushing paint on will just give the appearance of paint being brushed on. You'll need to replace the hardware. It's wear and tear exacerbated by the bleach/acids etc used in bathrooms or kitchens

Replace it. It’s not difficult or expensive.

Okay thanks. I was thinking about something like Hammerite or something but maybe it’s not worth the money and effort of it won’t last.
