Are they any good? I think they sound like a good idea. Dd says some of her friends had them and hated them. Not because they drove stupid but constant notifications for things like braking if someone pulls out etc.

I don’t know why you’d ever think that they sound like a good idea? If you feel you can’t trust your DC enough to drive without being monitored 24/7 then I’d argue that they shouldn’t be on the roads. DD had one for 2 years (it was the only way we could afford insurance) and the thing was an absolute nightmare. Even when I drove her car (30 years experience, safe driver with 0 accidents!) I got consistently low scores for bog standard braking & accelerating. I was penalised for accelerating whilst merging onto a motorway.. got to a point where I rang the insurance company and asked how exactly I was meant to safely merge from a 30mph zone to a 70mph without doing so.. Funnily enough they had no reasonable answer. Black boxes are nothing more than money making schemes for insurance companies
