Left side rib pain/discomfort. Sound familiar?

I’m assuming this is chostocondritis with possibly slipping rib syndrome and it’s been annoying me for years (incidentally, started happening about a year after the birth of my second child, which was a section.) however, my Saturday anxiety has pushed me to ask Mumsnet if this sounds normal or if it’s something that I should actually get checked. Two things:

  1. muscular feeling pain over my left rib cage, sensitive to press but no sensitivity if I push under the rib cage. I feel it more if I twist but it’s generally always there. Right side ribs sensitive to press too but only notice if it I press them.
  2. pinching/catching sensation if I fold forward too far (particularly towards the left.) this can be bloody awful and I need to stretch out for it to go back to normal

the reason I’m noticing it more is that when I try to trim my bikini line towards the left I can feel it about to go.

i need the wisdom of other women please. Thank you

Google costochondritis again. You already suspect it’s this, and it probably is.

Have you done anything particularly physical recently? I diagnosed this in myself, after lifting bulky pine doors into my small hatchback car.

hope it’s this and nothing sinister x

thank you, I hope so too! It’s been a good 6 years

Sounds like it. I have it too but it's worse on the right side for me. I have hEDS so joints slipping out of place is the norm for me!

That’s good to know! I’ve just suddenly thought “oh god maybe this is something I should worry about” having just put up with it for so long

I had costochondritis and I was in absolute agony for about a week, stabbing pain that came and went and took my breath away, couldn’t move my left side/sit/lie down etc, it was horrible! Pain akin to childbirth if you ask me.

Gosh I didn’t realise it could be that bad! I’d say this is quite mild but annoying. Though the bending to the left or forward to the left is nasty
