Is anyone celebrating Valentine's Day?

In the past, my husband used to buy me chocolates, flowers and we would go out for a meal. However for the last 10 years, we've treated it like any other day.
I'm going shopping later, and he's doing his own thing.

Welsh people have St Dwynwen's Day, celebrating love on the feast day of a local saint. None of this adoption of an Italian saint.

Onlyatnoon · 14/02/2026 07:04

It's a total non-thing for DH and me.

I see it as really daft, just a way of retailers making money.

Very happy in my marriage of 15 years, he DH is wonderful year-round!

Cupcakegirl13 · 14/02/2026 07:04

We do every year , a card and small gift and then either a special meal cooked at home after kids are in bed or occasionally like tonight out for dinner . It’s just an excuse really to do something nice just us two , life’s for living I say !

Non event here. Waste of money IMO. DH will randomly buy me flowers or a bottle of wine during the year. I would be horrified, as he would be, if there were gifts, cards and food today.

ArcticSkua · 14/02/2026 07:07

We exchange cards and sometimes a very small gift, otherwise a normal day.

GentleSheep · 14/02/2026 07:07

We exchange cards, that's about it!

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 14/02/2026 07:10

We do! Cards and a little gift. We love any ‘excuse’ to celebrate though (not that we need an excuse). ❤️

mellongoose · 14/02/2026 07:15

Cards here and romantic dinner for 3. Our DD is an only and has always wanted to be a part of our Valentines Day. I can’t bear to leave her out so she gets a card too 🤷‍♀️

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 14/02/2026 07:16

We’re broke so no gifts but DH is cooking me a nice tea and we’ll watch a movie together (we’re thinking Total Recall.. very romantic lol!)

Achingtoomuch · 14/02/2026 07:18

We try and do something. An outing. Nothing themed for the day.

December2025 · 14/02/2026 07:22

We will be exchanging cards and possibly a small gift.
Tonight will be a takeaway which to be honest isn't unusual for a Saturday night.b
We are loving and kind all year round but it is nice in a busy exhausting life for their to be a date in the diary to just stop for a moment together.

DappledThings · 14/02/2026 07:22

Nah, it's DS's birthday. Far more important.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 14/02/2026 07:22

Nope. DH sometimes gets me flowers and then doesn’t for years and then remembers once and so fourth.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 14/02/2026 07:24

Yes, we are going out to dinner at the place we got engaged and also had our first Valentine's Day together. Will be our 22nd wedding anniversary this year and we've been together for 27 years.

Maraudingmarauders · 14/02/2026 07:24

We don’t do normally but DH took DS (2) to pick and buy some flowers on the way home from nursery yesterday which was sweet!

FruAashild · 14/02/2026 07:25

We always exchange flowers and chocolate but don't go out. This year I'm doing something with friends in the evening to support a friend whose husband of 24 years left her a few months ago. DH is spending it with his sister (it's her birthday).

Astra53 · 14/02/2026 07:30

Card swop and a bag of chocolate hearts from M&S to eat together whilst watching the rugby. I don't do big one-off romantic gestures. I find them overwhelming and embarrassing. Prefer all year low-key stuff. Days out and takeaways.

Generallychill · 14/02/2026 07:31

Been married 15 years, we did one of the tesco valentines meals last night as I'll be watching the football tonight. I dont like cards or flowers, but dh has made me a tea in bed, and it's just a normal day for us today.

You don’t eat food on Valentine’s Day? That’s quite an extreme approach!!

Hodgemollar · 14/02/2026 07:41

We always do cards and flowers and a nicer than normal dinner in.
I don’t get the big deal, despite what people claim there’s really no connection between Valentine’s Day and those who make an effort year round.
My DH gets me fresh flowers weekly, I have a friend who moans about Valentine’s Day and claims her DH shows love year round but I don’t particularly think he does.

AfternoonTeaAddict · 14/02/2026 07:42

No. We are waving DS1 off on a school trip. Then home again. I have a work deadline next week that I'm a bit behind on so will crack on with that and DH is taking DS2 swimming later.

ETA- we sometimes do cards, but we both seem to have forgotten this year! Married 20 years and perfectly happy.

FieryA · 14/02/2026 07:43

Yes, I got flowers and a couple of gifts. Though im spending the day solo, so will go out and about and enjoy some self- love!

Tonissister · 14/02/2026 07:44

We always celebrate. I love any excuse for celebration. It doesn't have to be commercialised tat. I made a card for DH and am cooking his favourite dinner as he's been working away and will be back today.

MiddleAgedDread · 14/02/2026 07:44

Dirty weekend away for us!

I like that approach actually 'any excuse for a celebration'. I could do with a bit more of that in my life tbh!!
