Is anyone celebrating Valentine's Day?

In the past, my husband used to buy me chocolates, flowers and we would go out for a meal. However for the last 10 years, we've treated it like any other day.
I'm going shopping later, and he's doing his own thing.

No, DH is out doing a long distance event, I walked to the retail park earlier and now I'm watching telly

Owly11 · 14/02/2026 18:06

Yes we are having a delicious dinner in front of the 🔥 Starting with pink cocktails and rounded off with cheese and port 😋

Ilovemyshed · 14/02/2026 18:15

Cards and a special home cooked meal with table properly laid and a candle. We are romantic !

Married 22 years - we tend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and see valentines more for those dating. We spent today taxiing dd2 to social meets with her friends, went to the tip because I wanted to clear the garage so I can get to the running machine, and we’re having a child free meal later with teens banished to their rooms (where they will out together watching TV). Dh did buy me a gift (slippers in the post Christmas sales because mine were disintegrating but I realised too late for Christmas. I got him chocolate and a card. We did hold hands on a dog walk earlier.

Nothing for valentines (single) but going for a meal with family and my DC as its my birthday today

It's mine too!

Pliudev · 14/02/2026 18:28

Gave my DH a big Toblerone last year. He left it where our puppy could get it and it cost £150 at the vets. Bought him one this year and told him to keep it on the shelf. We are sooooo romantic. Actually I prefer my dog.

AgnesMcDoo · 14/02/2026 18:29

We don’t do the hallmark holidays

i did see lots of teen couples out holding hands today though ❤️

ReadySaltedSquares · 14/02/2026 18:37

We don’t do cards and gifts anymore (together and married over 20 years) but we’ve had a lovely walk to the pub and a couple of drinks and will order a take away.

like somebody else - any excuse to raise a glass to something! But then I light candles for every evening meal we have in the kitchen 😂😂

RoyKentsChestHair · 14/02/2026 18:41

Yes, I’m having a microwave ready meal for one, with a “party salad”, sitting on the floor of my new house because I don’t have a sofa yet!

Met with my ex for a chat and coffee earlier to rehash the end of our 3 year relationship (I forgot it was V Day when I suggested today - oops!) and now unwinding in the ‘comfort’ of my fixer upper, but feeling secure and optimistic about the future on my own.

Hope everyone else is having a lovely evening too.

It's nice to read that there are still loving couples out there who celebrate. What I love to read most is that today can be celebrated with your family, friends or pets. I want to wish a happy birthday to those whose birthdays are today.

I was in the shops today, and wow, the prices of roses compared to other flowers seem astonishingly high.

Friends sent me cute pics on WhatsApp, Wishing me a Happy Valentine’s Day; so thoughtful of them. DH is not bothered!

Yes, flowers and a card from DH, and I made him a card and got him posh chocolates. A nice dinner tonight at home (ok the M&S meal deal - a treat that no one has to cook). DH regularly buys me flowers.

Unfortunately not because I'm single right now but I would be if I had a partner. I would like to cook a meal together, run my partner a bath with candles and essential oils and I would set the table ready. Afterwards I would like my partner to tell me about something that they are passionate about (like quantum physics or Amazonian invertebrates) because that would make me feel close to them.

I do like a party salad.

My husband and I have been together 36 yrs , and due to his job he is nearly always away on Valentines but we always celebrate beforehand. So at the risk of bragging. Last we week he surprised me with cocktails out then walked me to a small church where "lumos" a company that specialises in events in churches. Old houses etc, had 3 musicians performing, the entire church was lit by candles, and , even though neither of us are into classical music , we listened to an hour of Vivaldi in the front row , which was magical ( they do everything from ABBA to Wagner, inuding Coldplay and Beyonce ! ) we then went to a fabulous Italian restaurant for the rest of the evening.
He left at 6 am this morning but when I got up, much later (!) There was a bouquet, card ,champagne and a top notch ready meal waiting for me !
He is romantic but this was so special, and straight from his heart .
35 years in and still impressing me. I know how lucky I am , believe me !
🥰😍🥰

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/02/2026 18:55

Depends what you call celebrating! Dh gave me 3 boxes of chocs, one of which was Maltesers, and I’ve been scoffing them since about 11 am. 🐷

Yes! We are…❤️

This is our sixth Valentines together. I found out in December my cancer has returned so every day is special. I bought him a card and a book that he wanted. He bought me a card and roses. He is cooking me dinner at the moment.

Thistooshallpass. · 14/02/2026 19:18

Card and chocolate every year . Don’t go out but have the Waitrose £25 meal .

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 14/02/2026 19:24

Sorry to hear about your cancer returning @Berlinlover but glad you have a lovely DH.

We kind of half celebrate - I got cinnamon buns and biscuits from the bakers for DH and DS which we have all had and are lovely. DH and I have spent the day together but just gardening with our chickens. Now having a Chinese.

Chipsahoy · 14/02/2026 19:33

Not since dc1 was born 18 yrs ago just before valentines. Though, I did get tulips today!

dafsortulips · 14/02/2026 07:05

Non event here. Waste of money IMO. DH will randomly buy me flowers or a bottle of wine during the year. I would be horrified, as he would be, if there were gifts, cards and food today.

Horrified ! Really.

BrickSeal · 14/02/2026 19:40

We do cards between me and my husband and small gifts (choc and flowers). We do cards and small presents for the kids (nothing huge, a cuddly toy and DH gets them a small bunch of flowers each). We’ve done a little Valentines disco at home this evening with some themed decorations and food plus dancing and party games.
It’s not about the holiday itself but it is nice to have an excuse to spend the evening together doing something a bit different.

Missj25 · 14/02/2026 19:41

Cupcakegirl13 · 14/02/2026 07:04

We do every year , a card and small gift and then either a special meal cooked at home after kids are in bed or occasionally like tonight out for dinner . It’s just an excuse really to do something nice just us two , life’s for living I say !

🙌
Exactly OP !
Enjoy your night ☺️

Seawolves · 14/02/2026 19:41

I bought myself some new earrings from DH, I am sure he would approve!

AstarionsDarkUrge · 14/02/2026 19:42

We usually do something but I’m not even seeing my husband today. Left for work at 5am and won’t be home till tomorrow.
