Help! Need to improve health

I've reluctantly come to the realisation that I need to overhaul my diet and increase exercise.I have started walking and cycling again, can't run due to previous injury. Has anyone got any recommendations for online/ YouTube videos for stretches/ tai chi/ very basic weights or other quick exercises? I am afraid that as a champion scroller I will spend more time searching than actually doing anything. I am overweight, overtired and over 50 for context. Thanks in advance

Pop sugar is great on YouTube!

I would start with yoga with Adriene. There are lots of different lengths of video. She is easy to follow and good at explaining and offering adjistments.

Although if you are pretty unfit I would reocmmend ultimately going to real life classes - yoga, weights or pilates. An instruxotr can help you enaure you have correct form and build up gradually.

Thanks both, I'll definitely check them out
I agree re classes, I have done yoga and pilates before but work got in the way ( non regular shift pattern) I'm on the waiting list for Tai chi , I thought I'd make a start at home, maybe with some aerobic/ weight/ dance based short sessions where no-one can see me and it doesn't matter so much if I get it "wrong"
Would appreciate more recommendations, even subscription based ones, I keep seeing ads on FB etc but am a bit wary without an honest review.

I have an Apple Watch that came with a sub scripting to Apple Fitness which has loads of different workouts of different lengths. I also like Move with Nicole for Pilates workouts on YouTube.

@bloodredfeaturewall , excuse my ignorance, is this on YouTube?

Any dance based/ light weight YouTubers? Particularly for beginners?
I'm doing couch to 5k but fast walking.. that's the level I am at! My job is active but I notice I'm getting out of breath more easily
Still, got to begin somewhere

yes, on youtube

Search Walk at Home on YouTube. 15 minute mile with no complicated moves (I have no coordination 😆). Gets your heart rate up nicely and there are loads to choose from. You can then just start adding on blocks once your fitness improves.

I recommend Qi Gong too (it’s on YouTube) for wellbeing and gentle exercise.

mindutopia · 14/02/2026 19:15

Just walk. Pop on a podcast and go out your door.

Iamateadrinker · 14/02/2026 19:28

Thanks
I do walk already and definitely second the idea of a podcast/ audio book but would like something I can do indoors as I am definitely a fair weather walker!
I'll check out all suggestions so far so thank you

The app Fiton has lots of free workouts of all kinds, strength, yoga, Pilates, dance etc most require no equipment! Would highly recommend I do yoga quite frequently, Peter is my fave instructor!
