Why's there suddenly so many different types of toilet cleaners in the shops?

Noticed tonight in the cleaning aisle. Foaming powders to pour down the u-bend. Some new zoflora expanding foaming spray. That upside down bleach spray. When did cleaning the loo suddenly become such a fad? What happened to just some bleach or toilet duck?

And why are there so few you can use if you have a septic tank??

Because most of them are really really bad for the environment.

The only thing I’ve found that actually gets limescale and stains off is a toilet pumice stone. They come with a long plastic handle and you literally scrub with them. Gets your loo really clean, I don’t use any other cleaner on it apart from some bleach once a week.

DS has been refurbishing his bathroom. He couldn't find any new sinks/loos he fancied at a reasonable price so he took the old stuff into the garden and doused it with hydrochloric acid.
It looks brand new!

It;s all part of the ridiculous cleaning as a hobby trend.

What all those chemicals must be doing to the water courses, lakes and rivers. Never mind all the single use plastics.

I just use own brand toilet duck and that does the job, how filthy are people's toilets to need much else?
