When is Eid this year?

I have had a Google but it's not very clear to me. My sons taxi driver is Muslim and a really lovely caring kind man. He tried to get Eid covered last year by another driver, but I think the taxi company are all Muslim. I'd like to pick my son up from school so he can be with his family. But don't want to promise if it's a date I can't do.

Also would this be the better time to offer? Afternoon school run or the morning? I can't do both really. That would be many, many miles of driving for me.

He hasn't asked and never would. I'd like if I can to offer just because we appreciate him a lot. It would be nice to repay his kindness with this gesture if we can. Any wise Muslim MN can advise? Thank you!

What a lovely gesture. I can’t help, but hopefully someone will be along who can help

ramadan/eid is based on the moon sighting so you can't guarantee what day it is. Right now based on the lunar calendar it will be either thursday 19th or friday 20th March. To be honest we muslims have had this problem for years when trying to request the day off for work! You just don't know until sunset the day before.

Morning might be better so he's able to go to the morning prayer but perhaps he'll prefer the evening so he can spend more time with family? he might have other taxi jobs during the day so that might not work out? So perhaps the morning.

You’re asking a question that not even Muslims know yet because it depends on the moon. On the 29th day of the preceding month, Muslims look for the new crescent moon. If sighted, the next day is Eid. If not, the month completes 30 days.

It is expectdd to be either March 19 or 20 this year.

You are both confirming the gist I got from Google, which makes me a bit less confused. He has young kids so I think last year wanted to feast with them. I think he was flagging towards the end last year as got up early to eat then fell asleep again and was a bit late.

I will play it by ear then. I had no idea this was a move able date. One of my friends is Muslim and offered to tell me everything I wanted to know. I obviously asked the wrong questions.
