Friday the 13th and other superstitions

So today is the first of three Friday the 13ths of 2026.
Would you avoid booking important occasions on these dates?
Do you pinch punch and say white rabbits at the beginning of each month?
Throw spilt salt over your left shoulder, avoid walking under ladders and salute lone magpies?

What superstitions do you "believe" in?

Absolutely not. I would carry on with my life as normal.

I should say though, I was born on Friday 13th and I'm not the devil reborn, in fact I would say that that day was a very lucky one for my parents! 🤣

In all fairness the devil never reveals themselves!

Ha! Very true! I'm an angel, honest 🤣. My brother, however.....he's not so bad these days but when he was a kid I wouldn't be surprised if my parents were looking for "666" on his head 🤣

I read somewhere that Friday 13th is lucky for those born on it! It kind of has to be?!

One of my DC was born on a Friday 13th so hopefully it’s true especially as she has school entrance exam results today 😬😬😬

The only superstition I follow is saluting lone magpies. Totally illogical and I don’t really believe it but can’t seem to help myself.

I don't avoid anything on Friday 13th but my cousin won't travel anywhere on that day.
However, I won't walk under a ladder and I always salute a lone magpie and say Good morning/afternoon/evening, your majesty.
Crackers, I know.

My DS2 was born on Friday the 13th of on a full moon so I don't consider it unlucky at all

I just make sure i watch several of the Friday the 13th films. Should get through most of them with the 3 occasions this year 😀

I always salute magpies (then shout at them to get off the bird feeders) and throw a little spilt salt over my shoulder. I must admit that I'm always aware when it's Friday 13th and today I did think twice about driving a really horrible road in the icy rain and hail. In the end I did, but I should have chosen the other route as there was an accident and a temporary 4 way traffic lights system had sprung up so I was half an hour late.

Well it was lucky for Matt Weston in the Olympics! 👏 🥇 🎉

Glad you got to your destination safely, albeit late @Butteredtoast55

i don’t know if this is regional or not, but as a young teen it was ‘bad luck’ to walk across 3 drains on the pavement - if you accidentally did it, you were meant to spit on the third….at 45 I still avoid the third drain (I’ve never spat on one, because it’s disgusting obviously) Sad, but true.

ImPamDoove · 14/02/2026 13:48

I don’t have a superstitious bone in my body.

I find it very silly to put these nonsensical rules in place, if I’m honest. But like astrology or ghosts - it’s all bunkum.

bluebelle78 · 14/02/2026 13:50

I always salute magpies and say good morning/afternoon/evening mr magpie how is your family and rub my collar for luck
