I want to buy a Fitbit as a present for a relative. I’m not sure what to get ! I want one that tracks steps reliably and gives statistics.
Please give me some advice! It’s a birthday present so up to about £150.

For that price a Garmin Forerunner 55 will do loads more if they are even vaguely interested in exercise. Also tracks sleep etc.

For that kind of price you could get Charge 5 or Vivosmart 4 (both of which I'm familiar with).

Would the person prefer a large face item like the Forerunner or would they like a slim line model? You could get extra straps to accessorise if you get a more basic model.

At that price point they all come with apps and lots of statistics. Receiver needs a gmail account to use Fitbit, though. Are they on gmail?

Fitbit have excellent customer service.

It really depends what they want. Also do they want a fitness tracker? I was a bit annoyed with Dh when he got me mine because it wasn’t really something I wanted. Not everyone likes wearing a watch or the constant interaction with the damn thing.

That said, I have a Garmin Forerunner 55 and I do like it now, but it took some getting used to and it took Dh helping me get it set up.

It’s for a man so needs to be not too girly. Someone in a fitness programme with a trainer at the gym. He already has a watch so he would wear it on the other wrist.

they do that Fitbit in other colours. I’m not too sure a man would wear both a watch and a Fitbit though. Do you know if it’s something he wants? Realistically if he wears a Fitbit there is no need for a watch as a Fitbit is a watch too.

MaryBeardsShoes · 13/02/2026 07:43

If he is actually into exercise don’t go for a fitbit (unless he specifically asked for one). They aren’t reliable and don’t last very long. I’d get the Garmin Forerunner 55 mentioned above, or see what Garmin have on sale.

lljkk · 13/02/2026 08:31

Sounds like he is only going to wear it in the gym?
If he's only wearing it while in the gym, he doesn't need GPS: you can save a lot on cost if it doesn't have its own GPS.

I have a Fitbit versa 4 and I love it.
it tracks steps, sleep, exercise, heart rate, just about everything I need. It doesn’t need charging too often. Easy to use. I highly recommend it.
