How to remove plaque at home…

I floss every day but still get plaque building up on my lower teeth as they are very crooked 😞
I’ve looked into water pics but they seem to get mixed reviews. I feel like I need something I can actually scrape the plaque off with but without ruining my teeth! Help!

Just go regularly to a hygienist - they will sort out the plaque for you. Doing DIY tooth maintenance is not a good idea at all unless you don't mind accidentally damaging your teeth. Leave it to the experts.

I go twice a year - but still get the build up in between

I bought a sonic plaque remover from Amazon. It seems to be the same as the ones sold for dogs. My son used it and said it was great.

Up it to 3 times per year and continue with daily flossing.

Interdental brushes might work better than flossing?

I just removed a stubborn bit of plaque on a lower tooth (inside) with the pointy end of a tweezer. OMG, I know, I know. But it was annoying me earlier. Did the job for now until I get to the hygienist in a couple of weeks. And then I'll be told off I suppose.

I can get build up between my lower front teeth in days, these shift it.

I see my dental hygienist 4 times a year, and they insist on Tepe brushes daily the rest of the time.

RandomMice · 12/02/2026 20:48

Thanks all! I will up the hygienist visits and also try one or more of the ingenious tools mentioned earlier! 🦷

The tepe brush things. Rubber ones. I went from bleeding gums to no bleeding gums. I go to the hygienist twice a year. Not that I can afford it but.
