Bullying at work

If you have been bullied at work in the past how long did it take you to get over it? I was bullied 5 years ago and recently there has been something that happened at work which has triggered it and all the memories have come flooding back and I'm struggling a bit.

Not quite the same situation but I was severely bullied over five years ago and I’m in therapy for it. It can take years to come to terms with something like this, especially when it was particularly bad or if it involves false accusations and spreading misinformation (like it did in my case).

I was bullied at work ending in 2018 and it still affects me now. CBT helps some.

I was "bullied" for the last five years or so of my working life.

But I was lucky. There really was nothing the couple of bullies could do that would materially affect me, even though they were senior to me. I was as senior in the organisation as I wished to be and I'd built up a pretty good reputation in it already. Their petty little attempts to belittle me (all senior managers being asked to update on their areas, I was told no one was interested in my area so don't bother, for example) just made me smile. And I didn't try to hide that smile.

That's why I put bullied in inverted commas.

Honestly, it drove the two bullies crazy that they had no hold over me. I didn't seek, didn't want and didn't need their patronage or approval.

As I say, I was in the privileged position of wanting nothing from them. But I can easily see that those who are bullied when they are not in my position, find it so very hurtful, especially if they are relatively (relative to me at the time, I was closing in on 60) young.
