Student loan -household income

Does the students own income count as part of the household income? Do they look at the previous years income or is it a guesstimate of the next years income.

He is on a gap year so working full time in the job he had during a levels, which is well paid. The aim os to save up to go but accommodation is a lot and his income plus ours takes us into a lower loan amount.

I don't think so because he won't have that income when he starts Uni.
