Why is Chris Mason allowed a nightly platform to try to bring down the Government ?

He clearly has his own agenda.

I am not a member of any political party. Over the decades I've always voted, and made judgements on issues important to me at the time and voted for the 'best candidate at the time', which have been from different parties at different stages of my life.

But news reporters used to do just that - report the news. Not try to create situations.

Kuenssberg was when she was in the job. Or Nick Robinson when he was.. Though I'm not a fan

Wish the BBC would just fuck off these days. They’re supposed to report and reflect the news, not create and affect it.

I hope Starmer digs in now just to piss off the BBC and the useless Scottish Labour Party who let down women and children every bloody day.

And then Starmer can hand the baton on to a proper leader who will do the job he couldn’t do, whoever that magical messiah is going to be <sighs>.

I wish he'd buy some nasal decongestant - but he's not as bad as Peston on ITV who.... talks... very... slowly andthenspeedsup for no reason at all.

They did indeed, remember the 6 o'clock news with Sue Lawley, who did just read the news, I tend to watch C4 news which I think gets the closest to genuine reporting and explanation without reporters inserting too much of their own bias (we are all of course biased to some extent) plus they do some proper investigative journalism as well.

I can’t stand the way news readers try to put so much drama into the way they relay the news now, Tom Bradbury is the worst for this. I think the producers must encourage them to do it . I just want it delivered to me straight in a Moira Stuart style!

I agree - I’d like to have seen the same level of criticism towards Boris Johnson and all the other tories.
It looks like they are trying to hound Starmer out.

And we are bloody paying for it too! It's actually embarrassing - 'It's critical for Starmer...how long can he hang on...the end is near...sources tell me he can't remain...' and days later he's still here.

Oh, Moira Stuart! 😍I don’t agree with the Chris Mason criticism though, I think he does ok and I quite enjoy his analysis.

No, he is the political editor of the BBC. That means he is in charge of the news related to politics. The BBC is supposed to be balanced in everything - certainly in politics. He is an absolute disgrace and even worse than his predecessor and I really wish Lisa Nandy would do something about it.

Lots on people on here don't know the difference between a newsreader and a political editor. The latter have a job to take the temperature of the nation, to analyse how well/poorly politicians are doing. Also the very notion raised upthread that Chris Mason didn't criticise Boris Johnson - what!? Did you fall asleep from 2020 - 2024?!

He's an insidious little prick, and so is Laura. Even positive things that have been happened have been reported by them with a 'yeah, but'. Awful.

And the BBC ran a survey recently, impartiality was number one cause of concern with their news outlets - they said they would listen.

We somehow watched him and someone else the other day. I think he had a tie on. But was clearly unable to be consistent in his speech.

If you compare Mason to C4s Gary Gibbon you will see a completely different style, Gibbon gives a balanced view, without making it about his opinion. The problem with the BBC, and to some extent ITV is that the presenters think their opinion is important, and they are somehow important in the narrative. I never watch BBC news any more, utter toilet!
