Scottish Labour leader to call for KS to resign

I heard earlier today if one more negative thing happens KS will resign. It's about to happen apparently at 2.30. He's toast or is he. Angela R will be a lot worse. Mp's lovd her and so do the unions. But do the electorate. I say no they don't.

If Keir Starmer goes then in comes Nigel farage! Good luck labour MPs and stop infighting. If you want a new leader then call an election

AmberSpy · 09/02/2026 14:18

Yeah, be interesting to see what happens. I think the thing that will save him is there's no obvious challenger candidate (I hope AR isn't stupid enough to try when this tax stuff still hasn't been resolved).

David Lammy might fancy a tilt at the leadership? Or Shabana Mahmood? TBF I think she'd be good.

nomoreforks · 09/02/2026 14:20

I like Shabana Mahmood too but i think any change of leader without an election will not be good for the labour party.

Oh yeah, I'm not a fan of the trend that seems to have developed in British politics where parties change leaders every 18 months! Definitely not good for the country. KS obviously made a big mistake appointing Mandelson but I am not convinced it's big enough to warrant stepping down.

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 09/02/2026 14:23

LOL I don't think anyone's really going to be caring what Anas thinks!

paddleboardingmum · 09/02/2026 14:26

It seems pretty depressing a leadership contest is the last thing we need. As for people thinking that public schoolboy Farage the person who brought us Brexit would be better, heaven help us.

WorriedMutha · 09/02/2026 14:31

AS loves a bandwagon doesn't he. If they do bring down Starmer, I hope they unleash all the chaos they deserve. And I'm a member.

Labour’s problem isn’t Keir Starmer. They lack credibility, full stop. Any party that can’t control its backbenchers and has more U-turns that a theme park ride is going to struggle to demonstrate that it has skills to govern, let alone well. Labour looks weak, inconsistent, and reactive - that before we get on to the scandals.

More of the tax burden keeps being pushed onto a shrinking group of productive people, with no serious plan to grow that base or raise productivity. 'Budget for growth', my arse! Redistribution without growth isn’t progressive - it’s just selling off the family silver, except it isn’t even yours to sell. Eventually, you run out of other peoples things to sell or money to spend. What then?

As for Anas Sarwar - any leader who can’t get elected on the back on the substance of their own policies shouldn’t be in the job. The difficulties that will lose Scottish Labour votes are likely largely self-inflicted. What exactly do Scottish Labour offer? A mansion tax? More redistribution? I thought the SNP already had the monopoly on being the party of higher taxes.

Trust north of the border is every bit as fragile as it is in the south. The Scottish leader doesn’t have a Keir problem - he has a character and substance one.

I've heard from undisclosed sources David Lammy has his toe in, Shabana her foot and Angela her wig

JamesClyman · 09/02/2026 20:07

A politician so insignificant I did not know their name until today.
(OK I live in Southern England.)

feellikeanalien · 09/02/2026 20:09

Isn't he just trying to distance Scottish Labour from Westminster so that they dont get hammered in the Scottish elections?

WhineAndWine1 · 09/02/2026 20:31

@JamesClymanGoogle is free and your comment really shows why the SNP have been in power for the last 19 years.

Sarwar is covering his backside for when he doesn’t become first minster in May.
