i just watched it on YouTube and it was brilliant. I’ve got no interest in American Football, and I must also confess I’ve not listened to his music before. But it was so life affirming considering all the awful stuff that’s happening in the US right now.
The fact that Trump hated it makes all the sweeter 😊

It's funny that I have heard more about this half-time show than I have about the actual sport 🤣
American Football wasn't it??
In-between these half-time shows, the cheerleaders, special adverts on the TV, people making piles of foods and drinking lots of beer - does anyone in the USA actually watch the match 🤣🤣

YouAndMeDays · 09/02/2026 13:17

Do you mean Bad Bunny 😆

ItsTimeToChang3 · 09/02/2026 13:19

Meh… I really hate when sport gets dragged into politics.

MadisonAvenue · 09/02/2026 13:44

I didn’t last long enough to watch that but subscribed to DAZN for 99p to see Green Day open the proceedings with a 6 minute long medley which included American Idiot and Holiday. Two songs which were anti-Bush when released but are now relevant to how they feel about Trump. Switched off after they’d been on.

PinterandPirandello · 09/02/2026 13:50

🤣 I’d never heard of him either but he’s very popular. Video of the show is bootylicious. Not my kind of music though.

Then you should take it up with the NFL, who invited Big Bad Bunny to perform. They'll have known the sort of thing he was going to do.

Tiswa · 09/02/2026 13:53

it had a vibe to me of the musical in the heights the kind of bodega kind of setting which for me emphasised how American it actually was

I enjoyed the whole superbowl actually including the ads!

YouAndMeDays · 09/02/2026 13:58

There's a brilliant explanation of what it all meant, and what all the references and imagery were, on Reddit.

I can't find it now, will try later!

HarryMaguireSlabHead · 09/02/2026 14:02

Is he called Big Bunny or Bad Bunny? I heard some of the music but it's certainly not aimed at me. Quite a lot of modern artists are here today, gone tomorrow IMO

LilyCanna · 09/02/2026 14:04

What’s political about a talented artist and joyful unapologetic celebration of his heritage? NFL booked him because he is massively popular, they’re not anti-MAGA.
There wouldn’t be anything political at all about it if Trump’s ICE wasn’t kidnapping people who look like him, and their kids, off the streets of American cities every day. That’s where the politics and the culture war come from - Trump.
Been watching the show and it’s fab.

YouTube preview blocked but the link works!

Of course they should take it up with him. Still, I prefer sport to be about sport :)

Alpacajigsaw · 09/02/2026 14:15

I’ve legit never heard of him, am shook to read he was Spotify’s most listened to artist last year. I’m so out of touch with the youth.

PineappleGummyBear · 09/02/2026 14:17

It was a wonderful display of joy and inclusion. Just what the US needs right now tbh.

Vodkamartini3olives · 09/02/2026 14:38

@Needmorelego Over 100 million watched it in the US alone.
It was a fantastic game and a very well deserved win for the Seattle Seahawks. I really enjoyed the half time show, I hadn't really heard of BB before happy Gilmore but my kids knew him. Loved all the famous faces that joined him especially Ricky Martin.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek 😁
Every year we (as in over here in the UK) hear about the half-time show and the special adverts etc but the actual sport bit always seems to be an afterthought 🤣🤣

ilovefrenchfancies · 09/02/2026 14:56

I actually really like his type of music so im
a bit embarrassed that I’ve not listened to him before. I’ve spent a lot of time in Central and South America (never been to PR, though) and the culture of music and dance is just wonderful. I’ve got a bootleg CD’of “Gasolina” from over 20yrs ago 😂

It was supposed to represent Puerto Rican culture. I loved all the flags at the end.

I only discovered Bad Bunny recently while on a cruise that included Puerto Rico. One of the bars had an expo on: mostly large photos featuring Benito from being a small child. I made the bar owner laugh by asking if BB was doing a gig on the small stage there!

Anyway, I made a point of watching the halftime show and thought it was absolutely fantastic. I'm hardly the target demographic, but I love the way he represents true patriotism ie positively and with love 🇵🇷

ohfook · 09/02/2026 19:59

I know nothing about American football but I’ve been enjoying the half time shows since the Dr Dre/Eminem/Snoop dog one a few years back. I thought it was absolutely amazing. The production was fabulous and I love how in the face of all of the criticism, he could’ve really laid into it all but instead he went for this real joyful celebration with themes of love and unity - the wedding was an awesome e idea. My favourite bit was the god bless America - a bit of a fuck you to people saying he’s anti-American and then when he listed so many places as a bit of a reminder that America isn’t just the US. Oh and the bit where he fell through the roof too. Absolutely perfect in my opinion. I’ve watched it about seven times!
