Has anyone else got this absolutely terrible cold/flu bug?

Typing this because I just don’t know what to do with myself. I feel so ill.

I started with massive, industrial man-sneezes and a runny nose on Wednesday. Classic cold symptoms. That started to ease off by Saturday and turned into the most vile illness. I feel like my whole body has a migraine. Everything hurts, from the top of my head to my legs. I can’t keep my legs still. My back aches. My face hurts. My ears are ringing like I’ve been to a Black Sabbath gig. I’m sweaty. I have a sore throat and a blocked nose. It hurts to move my bloody eyes.

I’ve just been pacing around the bedroom because I feel so utterly shit that I just didn’t know where to put myself!

I’m in the spare room because I’m desperate for DH not to get this, so I’m posting looking for solidarity and reassurance that this isn’t some tropical disease and is just a cold virus doing the rounds!

How long until I feel better?!

DH had it and was floored for about 10 days. He’s ok now but still a bit pale and tired. Many sympathies - it’s a horrible virus doing the rounds.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/02/2026 04:44

10 days? Oh Lord.

I have things to do! I can’t be ill for ten days 😬

Thank you for the sympathy. DH is asleep and I needed that Flowers

DH isn’t massively fit generally and we are older - I had it too (I think) but it was shorter in length for me. Hopefully the same shorter time for you if you’re not as old as us! (We are grandparents).

It was a very nasty virus for a cold and felt different. We wondered if it was actually covid.

I’ve started to wonder that, but I think the sneezing makes it less likely to be Covid.

I’ve even lost my appetite. I never lose my appetite!

Sounds like flu. Treat the symptoms and rest.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/02/2026 05:27

I’m not a natural rester, but I have no choice with this one. Floored.

Yes. In fact if u search there is a huge thread on this that started about Xmas time. I was floored. Never had flu before. My husband had to help me get out of bed. Took me two weeks before I got better.

EmpressaurusKitty · 09/02/2026 05:58

I had it for about a week & spent 2.5 days of that mostly sleeping.

Hope it doesn’t last too long for you.

Ziggy30 · 09/02/2026 06:33

I had been a bit off it for over a week, maybe closer to 2 - slight headache, bit of a cough, feeling cold all the time. Then last Sunday it hit with vengeance. Sweating buckets one minute, shivering the next, headache so bad I could barely lift my head, sore throat, coughing, aching everywhere and soooo tired. Just walking from one room to the other exhausted me. I took a couple of days off work. But still not right. Still feeling absolutely exhausted all the time!

Sirzy · 09/02/2026 06:35

Yes I came home from work on Thursday with it and have had no voice and generally felt shit since.

I think I am finally on the mend but not getting too carried away

reluctantbrit · 09/02/2026 07:10

Yep, a week in bed and then another week coughing and sneezing like the world is ending.
Feeling absolutely crap for at least 2 more weeks.
After 1 week I sucessfully passed it on to DH. Luckily DD went back to uni before she could get it as well.

We are now coming out of it, yesterday's short walk was a first that I didn't have to feel like a wet noodle when we came home.

A friend (nurse) thinks it was the flu but as we were jabbed it didn't go all the way. But we also thought of Covid.

In the end it didn't really matter.

AnotherSliceOfCakePlease · 09/02/2026 07:46

Flu can dreadful, so can Covid. Rest, sleep, stay hydrated. You can pay for flu/covid jabs coming into winter if you want to try and avoid the worst of their effects.I had flu in my thirties and have been an enthusiastic recipient of both vaccines since as it was not an experience I want to repeat.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/02/2026 08:28

Thanks all, DH is jabbed, so hopefully he’ll avoid it.

I can’t remember many times I’ve felt so poorly.

There were several threads in December, this is the longest-running.

tl:dr - it's horrible, eventually (weeks not days) you'll get over it. Rest, fluids, more rest.

And rest.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/02/2026 09:31

Thank you. While I was pacing in the night I found a stack of books DH forgot to give me for Christmas, so that will aid the resting process 🙂
