How does witness protection work? Do you get a like for like lifestyle?

Watching a TV drama where they are offering a family witness protection so the father will be a witness for the prosecution but they are a fairly wealthy family so, if this were real, would the witness protection offer be a similar lifestyle? I’d certainly not want a new life that was impoverished for doing the right thing.

Anyone any insight?

Im in the witness protection program and negotiated a VERY lucrative deal, much better than my previous living conditions. Depends how good your lawyer is i guess.

No real insight but I'm guessing not. They would need to blend in and it's also not a good use of tax payer money to be buying people expensive lifestyles. They can of course decline witness protection if they don't want to lose their lifestyle. But think I'd value my life more.

It's not unusual to get a lifestyle upgrade, going from a overcrowded flat in a city to a naice semi in suburbia quite some way away, with new vehicles, new devices etc.

It's quite rare in the UK, mainly I guess because it's so expensive. Also we are a small country so it's difficult to do.

Would you rather be rich but dead?

You would still have what you had before though. If you owned a two bedroomed flat in Mayfair, it would be sold and you would get the money.

I suppose that must be right, that all your assets are sold etc. It’s still some sacrifice to make if you basically like your life.
