How many pieces of Kapla please?

Hello

My 6yo had asked for Kapla for their birthday. For those who have it, how many pieces do you think are best to start with? I have two children who will inevitably be playing with them at the same time.

Also, do any of you have any of the Kapla build books and find them useful?

Thank you

Thank you so much! That set looks great & it’s good to hear that it’s enough for two.

Their playroom has a wooden floor plus a decent sized wooden “dining” table which is used for drawing crafting, so hopefully it’ll balance okay on one of those.

Sorry, can I just ask what age your DS was when he got these / used these most? As they have a few different options re ability with the books (although not sure how much they’ll look at the book anyway).

Thanks again

Probably 8 or 9 I think. He loved it for about a year or two then went of it. He went off Lego as well at the same time...

It coincided with lockdown when we were all scrambling for things to do in doors, aaaaand he didn't have a computer.... not sure if he would have played with it as much if there were alternatives?? We first found it in a museum, possible the V&A in Dundee....can you see if you can have a go if it before you invest?

Ah my DC were obsessed with kapla. we never did any fancy builds but they were quite small then, never even understood how you were meant to but they were used in every imaginative game scenario every day for years. ❤️

Thank you. That’s really helpful. They have it at school & love building with it, which is why they’ve requested it. Although they have thousands in their construction room, so I was trying to gauge how much we need for at home.

We have this one

Sorry, I don't know how to make the links smaller....

We used it loads during lockdown when me and DS would be building together so plenty of blocks for two people anyway. It comes with a book which was good for ideas for me but DS just did his own thing so not sure the books are useful for kids (more for adults who like following instructions/have no imagination!!).

You do need somewhere flat to build, carpet is terrible.

We had this amount too between two, it was fine when they were building something together

We had the same box for our two. We bought it when our youngest was about 4, but it was probably most used between 6-9. Our ten year old still gets it out sometimes, and when he does, the 13 year old is sure to get involved, so it definitely has longevity.

Snowfaux · 10/02/2026 15:32

Thank you all. I’ll definitely buy the 280 box and it sounds like it’s a great age to buy it for longevity as she’ll be turning 6 & my youngest is a few years younger.
