So if your cat's tail went in your tea...

...would you still drink it?

If the circumstances were that you were stuck on the sofa beneath two cats, one of whom rarely gets lap-time as the other pushes her off, your teen had made you a tea in a break from revising for mocks and had now gone back upstairs, and the tail only went in for a few seconds. In those circumstances would you drink it? Asking for a friend...

Well I give my cat little kisses on the top of her head to say hello so a little bit of tail dipping wouldn't faze me.

I would draw the line at carrying on if she'd had a little drink from the cup. I have to be careful when I have a glass if water that no unexpected sharing takes place.

rainbowunicorn22 · 08/02/2026 15:38

no way would i waste a good cup of tea saves getting a teaspoon!

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 08/02/2026 15:39

Don't have a cat but a very hairy collie. I've probably drunk / eaten more dog hair than I'd like to properly think about.

Unless I could see something in the tea, I'd be fine.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 08/02/2026 15:39

Yes. I draw the line at her lapping at my tea

I don't get how the arse end of the tail would get in the tea - she didn't sit in the tea, just gently wafted her tail in.

Yeah at least one of mine has tried to sit on my cup of tea before.

he is spatially challenged.

BearSoFair · 08/02/2026 15:42

Absolutely. And gravy or cereal or baked beans that have been tail-dipped. Not that I ever have done that, of course...

If they poke their grubby little paw in then I think twice!!

You know they just wait til you leave the room to do that. What you don’t see doesn’t hurt you. 🐱 👅

tailinthejam · 08/02/2026 15:43

I would. This sort of thing happens all the time in our house.

DollyPumpkin · 08/02/2026 15:45

Absolutely! I’ve even been known to eat a piece of toast after my cat has licked all the butter off it and I’m still alive and kicking 🤣

AwfullyGood · 08/02/2026 15:52

Wth? I don't have a cat but this is disgusting and totally unhygenic.

I try to avoid eating & drinking in animal lovers home from this reason. Hygiene standards are shocking.

The arse end is the part of the tail nearest to the cat's arse.

Obviously I know that!!!!

Im asking how that end gets inside the teacup.

sesquipedalian · 08/02/2026 15:56

I’m laughing at the PP’s comment that it’s “disgusting and unhygienic”. I hope they know that people with animals in the home have children with far fewer allergies etc. and yes, it wouldn’t even occur to me not to drink the tea.

Catwalking · 08/02/2026 15:56

‘D’H endlessly leaves his glasses of water half full all over the place, cats help themselves for years, hasn’t affected his physical (🤭or mental) health ever!

Sorry for your shock!!!!

FiftyShadesOfPurple · 08/02/2026 15:58

Yes, of course. I give my cats big kisses so I'm used to whatever germs live on their coats.

Warmlover · 08/02/2026 15:59

God yeah, without hesitation.

Orange cat, by any chance?

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 08/02/2026 16:01

Absolutely not.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/02/2026 16:01

Cat tails are gluten free.

If it was a decent cuppa, it's worth it.

SardinesOnButteredToast · 08/02/2026 16:02

I've eaten food that the cat got a good face full of before I caught him.

Warmlover · 08/02/2026 16:02

I can’t be the only one that grabs their cats tail and kisses it on the regular. She doesn’t mind btw

Children's fingers often end up in things here too. Probably more often than the dog hair.

Don't worry, I try not to feed people with delicate minds so you'll never be invited to eat here.

SunnyWarrington · 08/02/2026 16:05

Snozzlemaid · 08/02/2026 15:23

Yes. And I have done so. Dcat likes to wander around my desk when I’m working and has on occasion dipped her tail into my tea.

Love your username. My cat is called Snozzle, and I am absolutely his maid! And yes, I would still drink the tea 😺

Loving24again · 08/02/2026 16:06

Yes. I occasionally catch one of my dogs with their tongue in my tea/coffee. Always drink it, am very healthy 😎

I think you are confusing hygiene standards with a delicate mind.

The thread has turned by stomach (again more delicate than my mind) so I'm leaving it now.

Enjoy your hair infused tea!
