Do you keep books in your cloakroom?

I've been surprised, when looking on Rightmove, at how many people keep books in their cloakrooms/bathrooms.

I have literally hundreds of books in my home but have never kept any in the bathroom (I don't have a cloakroom) and I don't know anyone who does.

Just curious about why people do this?!

Oh c’mon
you don’t know why people have books in the loo

I have a selection of books in my loo, yes.

If you mean the toilet, just say the toilet.

No, neither loo have the space for it and I'd worry about water damage in the bathroom. That one does have a small bookcase just outside of it though, it's fits perfectly in the limited space there and it's a great place to put books that I find left in the bathroom - DD1 is a bit notorious for leaving books behind her wherever she goes, and the bathroom is no exception.

We also keep comics, light mangas, things that are very easy pick up and put down that those who do read on the toilet can use easily. I'm rarely one who can do that, I like to be in and out as quickly as possible and find toileting too distracting to read through it, but I've had the occasional dodgy stomach night where at least attempting to distract myself from it has been nice.

A cloakroom is where you keep boots and shoes, no?

People keep books in their bathroom to read on the bog. HTH.

By ‘cloakroom’, do you mean a downstairs loo?

Yes, that's my understanding of cloakroom

Our downstairs loo is also a cloakroom in the true sense of the word. We hang coats and jackets there. (Cue horrified noises from those MNers who insist that every flush sends a million deadly wee or poo particles everywhere.)

People bring their phones in with them these days, ahem.... I have a toilet roll holder that has a phone shelf. But I also have the quotations of Oscar Wilde in a little book on the window ledge. It never fails to amuse me while on the throne.
