Do you ever wonder what people are listening to on their headphones?

Those who are socially aware and considerate that is, who do have the grace and think of other people and actually wear headphones on public transport. (Don’t get me started)

I often wonder, what are you listening to?

You would never in a million years guess what I’m listening to. I’m a middle aged, salt & pepper haired, dowdy older menopausal plain Jane woman. I travel on public transport a lot..

currently, audioslave, pearljam, Chris Cornell, Metalica, Nickleback, AC/DC, limpbizkit, Sawyer Hill, The cult. Plus some true crime audio books.

Haha I always think this....mainly because if my put my main entire playlist on shuffle the difference in music is obscene it ranges from savage garden to system of a down.

So if you see me like bat out of hell on the treadmill with my head phones on I'm probably listening to Wetwetwet or black Sabbath who knows.....

There’s a woman I work with who marches into work each day with headphones on and I guessed that she was listening to Buble, she looks like a Michael Buble kinda gal, when I asked her she said she was listening to ocean sounds. ☺️

Ocean sounds, love that for her.
I have to say I am partial to Enya and enigma on my work commute.

I'm quite like you, OP. I'm often listening to Aussie Rock. But then again, I might be listening to Taylor Swift. Or Bauhaus. Or Korpiklaani. Or Sly and Robbie. Depends what my playlist throws out.

Dolorsy · 06/02/2026 19:01

It's one of those Goalhanger podcasts.

TonTonMacoute · 06/02/2026 19:02

Im just relieved they are wearing them.

Ha same, mine goes from 80s to Backstreet Boys to Prodigy to Metallica… I always have mine on shuffle, love the randomness of not knowing what’s coming next

I was listening to Harry Hill's Desert Islands Discs on the bus on my way to work yesterday. He picked Ernie by Benny Hill and Me Grandad's Flannelette Nightshirt by George Formby - I was really hoping my earbuds were secure and noone was overhearing those Grin

Worked with a women several years ago & she liked to, as she put it “chill & check out [mentally]” on her break, aka she’d sit in the staff room, eat her lunch & listen to something with her headphones on. Everyone respected this, we worked on a busy ward & had to have our breaks onsite (in case the emergency buzzer went) so we didn't think it was rude as she couldn’t just nip away for 30 minutes peace. She explained they were noise cancelling, so we just went about our breaks chatting etc, whilst she was oblivious.

On my last shift before I moved to a new role, curiosity got the better of me & I asked what she was listening to that late shift, she looked at me, leaned in & said “absolutely nothing…”

Basically, they weren’t noise cancelling, she’d been sat with them on so she wasn’t disturbed & just listened to EVERY conversation in the room when people were on their breaks believing she couldn’t hear a thing.

My DD is currently listening to Spanish language podcasts, though sometimes audiobooks. My son tends to listen to music or football pundits. I don’t wear headphones myself. I really don’t wonder - just assume it’s music though now I think about it most people I know who use headphones don’t - they are listening to podcasts too.
