Who remembers when Take That split up?

How bad was the hysteria, is it true they had to set up helplines?! I would have been around 10 but was too into Michael Jackson and East 17 to care.

I watched a bit of a documentary earlier seeing people screaming and crying. It was hilarious!

Ludicrously we all went into a meeting room at work to watch the press conference on TV. I still remember Jason Orange saying something inappropriate about ‘creaming money from the fans’ or suchlike

I was 4 so don’t remember it at all, but I’m staggered to find out there was a hotline! I really underestimated their status - even 1D didn’t have a helpline (as far as I know)

I was 16, remember it so vividly and I was really upset. My best friend had to have the day off school…!

I remember it vividly. I worked with a colleague, a woman in her thirties with three children. When she heard the news she broke down in tears and was completely inconsolable. She had to be sent home from work.

I remember when The Beatles split up!

I was in the local co-op. when I heard it on the news. I think I was about 16 and wasn’t massively upset, but I was shocked. It was a huge thing though. Folk were devastated.

I was heartbroken when Geri left the Spice Girls.

I really enjoyed the Netflix documentary that I watched last night.

I am older than a lot of Take That's fan base and was saddened when they split up but not distraught!

It's also a reality check to realise that Robbie was only 16 when he joined TT.
No wonder he went off the rails.

I still enjoy both TT's music and Robbie's.
Great musicians, songwriters and singers!

I remember it. I wasn’t a fan so it didn’t bother me but I remember the news showing girls in hysterics.

Moneynoob · 06/02/2026 22:04

to this day I bloody love how deep is your love

Iocanepowder · 06/02/2026 22:08

Yes a relative of mine volunteered at Childline at the time and said she got calls about the split.

I seem to remember a news story about a girl in Germany who either attempted to or actually took her own life.

I remember going to a Radio 1 roadshow the day after Robbie left and girls were sobbing when they showed video on the big screen.
