Mentor scheme for teenage boys

Hi,

Our local secondary school is taking part in a mentoring scheme for boys who may not have a positive male role model in their lives. I think this is the pilot and the plan is to then do it at other schools across the country.

I personally think it sounds good and know of a couple of people volunteering in it, but I’ve heard a real mix of opinions over it.

The scheme works by setting the children challenges to do with their mentors, to help build confidence etc .

Has anyone else heard of this scheme? Any thoughts?

I haven't heard of it but I think it sounds like a great idea because if its through school it will help the most 'hard to reach' boys - e.g. the ones that might not already have any other positive male role models like through football/youth clubs/cadets/scouts etc.
