The US Peace Walk

I searched for a thread but couldn’t find one. Anyone following this?
Some Buddhist monks walking across the US for peace. They have a dog too - Aloka. They’re due to arrive in Washington DC around the 10th February and have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
I think they’re amazing. There’s some concern about Trumps reaction when they do arrive.

Never heard of it.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 05/02/2026 13:48

I’ve seen photos of them, surrounded by a police escort on what looked like a busy road.

I haven’t looked into it though.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/02/2026 13:50

Yes. Monks trudging through the snow for peace. It's inspiring for a lot of people in the US. Mostly because there's so little good news there right now.

I follow them every now and then

OrangeRobes · 05/02/2026 13:56

They’re not getting much mention in the UK press. 100s sometimes 1000s of people following them. That’s why they need a police escort.

I've seen them on FB because they walked through my hometown and various friends posted pics of them. It's true that there has been snowfall on their route. Parts of my state have had heavy snowfall (for them).

dudsville · 05/02/2026 14:00

I've been following them, it's been lovely seeing the response from the communities they travel through.

OrangeRobes · 05/02/2026 14:02

@dudsville they’re so inspirational.

American here and they are inspiring so much joy in our shitscape reality right now. People line the streets even in snow and ice to see them and the entire movement is so needed. They are all over my instagram and Threads feed but if course that is what my algorithm desires.

OrangeRobes · 05/02/2026 14:09

Aloka (meaning light) with a heart on his forehead. 🥰

@dudsville they’re so inspirational.

They are, I'm not religious, and I would be equally inspired by any group of people doing this, but I love how it provides an opportunity for those they're passing to go out and spend time with them. The opportunity to really feel peaceful in the US right now is so important. It's just all so positive.

OrangeRobes · 05/02/2026 14:15

I’ve started reading around Buddhism. I like that the Buddha is a philosopher not a god. It makes it less like a religion which for me is a good thing.

Anyone going to watch the live stream in Washington on the 11th Feb at 7pm?

I will. I'm interested in US politics so I guess that's why they keep popping up on my FB. They seem to be a beacon of hope for many non MAGA Americans, in what are very troubling times.

I’m here in the UK, so no 😆.

BUT I’d love to see them on a live stream or similar, have you heard anything about how I can see them?

And do you mean 7pm Washington time? So in about 22 hours, midnight on Tuesday night UK time?

Wow these guys are amazing! A ray of light in all the darkness right now. I will be following them from now on. Thank you for this OP.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 10/02/2026 11:11

I’ll be there at 7.30 then OP, thanks!

OrangeRobes · 10/02/2026 13:49

I read this today and I think it’s why the walk resonates with me so much.

When monks leave their monasteries to walk for peace, it's not symbolic, it's a warning. They don't seek attention. They don't ask for power. They walk only when the world is out of balance.
If you see them, offer food and water. They carry nothing but what's given to them. This isn't a protest. It's a prayer in motion. The fact that Buddhist monks are walking for peace in America should make us all pause. This is serious. This is rare. And it matters. They're finally in town, please keep them safe.

outofsounds · 10/02/2026 13:54

I belong to a Buddhist meditation group (though I am not a Buddhist) and we are doing a 6 mile peace walk at 12 noon on Saturday to coincide with the monks. We’re in Cornwall.

OrangeRobes · 10/02/2026 18:15

@outofsoundsthats brilliant! I’m thinking of joining something similar. Peaceful meditation sounds so good
