Would you rather spend spare money on a holiday ? Or a meal /shopping trip ?

So I have a dilema
We can either have 4 nights in Gran Canaria next month (cheap last min deal ) or go for a night away (uk ) nice meal and some shopping
What would you pick ?

We only ever go to Scotland but would still opt for that over anywhere /anything else...

Holiday. But I wouldn't go to Gran Canaria.

NextLevel2 · 04/02/2026 16:10

If I hadn't done either for a while and we're talking somewhere sunny in miserable Feb - I'd be going somewhere sunny.

Bjorkdidit · 04/02/2026 16:11

Gran Canaria every time unless it's a low budget AI hotel in a rowdy resort and you'd have no extra funds to eat out if the food is shit. But even then, the UK alternative would have to be pretty swanky to best a few days in the sun right now.

But SC somewhere quiet where I can go for walks in nice weather and eat nice Canarian and Spanish food would be my choice every time.

LividArse · 04/02/2026 16:12

Can't see how this is a question! Get to the sun!

Iwantsandybeachesandgoodfood · 04/02/2026 16:18

Gran Canaria is lovely! Beautiful beaches, great food. I’d definitely choose that.

itsthetea · 04/02/2026 16:22

look at the weather forecast over there / check out the round yellow symbol

inkyspells · 04/02/2026 16:22

Yeah we love Gran Canaria
We always go to mogan or Taurito and it’s really quiet .
We stayed at Taurito princess last time and really enjoyed it

100% holiday

ginasevern · 04/02/2026 16:32

Another vote for holiday, provided you can afford to really enjoy it.

Needmorelego · 04/02/2026 16:36

How much would you be spending on a meal ??
Personally I'd enjoy a long weekend at a Premier Inn type place by the coast with food being stuff like a meal deal from Tesco.
Why meal AND shopping?

Because it’s what the OP likes to do?

What’s the point of going away for a night somewhere if you’re just going to eat a Tesco meal deal? Where would you even eat it in February, your hotel room? Certainly no fun having a picnic in the wind and rain.

A big part of a weekend away is being able to sample local cuisine, have a nice meal out or two, go to a local pub, etc.

CeeJay81 · 04/02/2026 17:16

Def the holiday but cant see how the Night away in the UK would cost as much as 4 nights in Gran Canaria. Unless it involved expensive shopping, which def isn't my thing.

@Crushed23 that's why I asked.
It seems an odd combination.
Short break abroad vs meal and shopping.
If meal and shopping is going to add up to the same cost as going abroad then it must be a very expensive meal? If that's what she likes then fine.
The OP wanted opinions.
I gave mine 🤷

Holiday though I’d go somewhere else. Can’t be doing with shopping

JustGiveMeReason · 04/02/2026 17:47

Holiday, even though, as a rule, I don't like flying for such a short time.

JamesClyman · 04/02/2026 19:43

Meal/shopping.
Holidays are vastly over-rated. (We haven't had one since 2010.)

mindutopia · 04/02/2026 19:56

Absolutely a holiday. I’d pay money to avoid having to go shopping! 😂

SilverPink · 04/02/2026 20:34

Holiday every time. I love my holidays. Although I can’t work out how they can come to the same cost. Are you designer shopping?
