How to fancy up a plain choc cake for 8 people? My bil's 50th. Any suggestions to beautify it? Stick ferrero rocher's around the plate? Bil is not fussy he said a regular chocolate bd cake.
All and any suggestion welcome?

You're right. If I put a ton of stuff on it, he wouldn't say anything he's nice, but you're correct, I asked him and need to control the urge to make it fancy. That chocolate fudge brownie cake is something I haven't tried making but I can order one.

Thank-you.

https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/malteser-and-kit-kat-cake-by-queenie--374924737714699090/ is about as easy as it gets. Butter icing, KitKats and Maltesers (or strawberries, or anything really on the top)

See, I'd love that, but he wouldn't.

Thank-you.

You mean improve?

Pimp means sex trafficking

Shaving chocolate with a vegetable peeler looks fancy and masks how awful I am at icing cakes

Just make it the very best cake you can, with top notch ingredients. I use ganache, which is so easy, to give a glossy finish.

Hope it tastes amazing and it's also a lovely thing you are doing for him. Thanks for taking my post in the spirit in which it was meant - I also have a bit of a tendency to want to go all out for my family too!

Ohhhhh I would inhale that all to myself 😋

That’s the original use, but in common usage, it means to make something look more attractive. And that’s what the OP means. She doesn’t really mean “improve”, because it isn’t a given that a plain chocolate cake needs improvement just because it starts off plain. The OP means to make it more superficially attractive.

Another way to say it would be to tart it up.

A mud or fudge cake with a ganache is another option to a chocolate sponge. You only need a small slice. www.recipetineats.com/easy-chocolate-fudge-cake/

Strawberries half dipped in chocolate as a decoration? Shaved chocolate curls? I bought decorations from amazon for a recent birthday. It included mini balloons and decorations on sticks, along with the '70th birthday' sign. It looked very impressive once I'd done, but I think you are wanting something fairly plain not actually pimped?

Birthday is over. I bought a chocolate fudge cake and put a happy birthday topper on it and sparklers.

Here is a picture from online of the same cake, and a picture from when we lit the sparklers.
