Am I in the wrong?

A young girl has started working with us at work, she’s actually the daughter of another colleague, now we start work before our store opens, I have always sworn when things annoy me, mainly saying “ for fucks sake” I wouldn’t do this with customers present as it’s not very professional. Now I was in the tea room having my break the other day, and her mum started saying to me oh my daughter has never swore, doesn’t like swearing etc so her daughter has obviously told her mum she doesn’t like me doing it, why didn’t she just tell me she didn’t like it? I mean she’s 22 not 16, also I don’t see why I should stop when it’s something I’ve always done, I’m not aiming it at her, it has nothing to do with her, I find this quite annoying, am I in the wrong?

She can piss off

That’s my initial thought

Why are you even giving this a second thought?

I wouldn't really expect the daughter to tell me they don't like me swearing no. Because you can't control what someone else does. So most of the time you'd just ignore the swearing.

So this woman has said her daughter doesn't like swearing? Ok. Some people don't.

Just shrug and ignore.

Perhaps her daughter hasn’t said anything. I’d just shrug and ignore.

Aww the poor sensitive flower. I’d ignore.

It’s just annoyed me I guess, why couldn’t she just tell me she doesn’t like me swearing, going through her mum is a bit much.

I think she has because her mum has never mentioned it before.

Both aspects - being disapproving about swearing and going through her mum - show her to be immature.

Just take it as information going forwards - she and her mum are a weird little team. Stay sweary!

Funny you say that as they both clean the microwave out in the tea room before they use it with kitchen spray, not sure they should be doing that, won’t the chemicals go in their food?

She may be 22 but it sounds like she's a young 22 and is relying on her mum, who knows you better, to mention to you that she doesn't like to hear swearing.

She just started work there and probably didn't want to create any direct bad feelings between herself and you.

If what you say, and when you say it, and how often, is so, I would just be mindful, but not stop expressing yourself.

This new employee will have to learn to turn a deaf ear and realize that you don't mean anything by what you say, it's just how you express yourself.

Yes you’re right, I mean I don’t know how she’s going to cope in the big bad world
