solo dining near Canary Wharf suggestions?

I'm going to an afternoon show in Canary Wharf on Sunday and it'll finish around dinner time. It's a couple of hours home, so I might want to eat afterwards - any recommendations for somewhere that might be quite nice, but that I wouldn't feel like a lemon for getting a table on my own? Not hugely expensive, either. Open to most kinds of food. I could always find a wagamama or pizza express, as I've done both of those alone before, but thought there might be something a bit different that people could recommend.

I like Dishoom, but it's not the cheapest.

CardiOnCardiOff · 29/01/2026 18:47

thanks, I'll look them up!
any other suggestions?

Depending on what you fancy eating (and what time you mean by ‘dinner’), have a look at Boisdale (Scottish), Royal China (top rated Chinese), Roka (Japanese), Barberella (Italian)…..there are SO many places that you definitely don’t need to end up in Wagamama etc.

If you want more casual, have a look at Caravan, Sticks & Sushi, Brother Marcus, or even the Market Halls.

It really depends on what you want to eat and how much you want to spend.

thanks!
I'm open to lots of different types of food. Not wanting to spend loads, though, and want to feel happy sitting there by myself.
It's post theatre so probably about 6pm, on a Sunday though.

Hawksmoor is gorgeous - £30 Sunday roast

CardiOnCardiOff · 29/01/2026 19:45

that sounds nice. What would it be like for someone alone though?

I don't know the area at all. I'd be somewhere near the underground station though and that's where I'd be going back to afterwards, and I'm happy to walk around if I have an idea of where to go, but wasn't sure about just wandering aimlessly!

Are you going to see The Hunger Games as you are in Canary Wharf?

bruffin · 29/01/2026 19:50

Canary Wharf will be heaving on Sunday evening as its the last day of the Canary Wharf Lights, i would make sure you have a booking.

Market hall is like a big canteen with different food stalls, you'll be fine there alone but it may get crowded.

There is also a Franca manca or Ippudo by the Elizabeth line- again reasonably priced and caters well for lone diners.

CardiOnCardiOff · 29/01/2026 19:58

yes, hunger games.
I thought the lights finished Saturday night - i was disappoitned I wouldn't get to see them!!
I feel like a lemon making a booking for 1, was hoping I'd just spot something nice. Italian maybe or Asian noodles etc, not sushi so much. Or steak always good too

oh the market hall could be a good shout then, if I decide I was quick and cheap

There is a restaurant at the theatre, but only one menu as far as I can tell, and not totally sure it appeals. But I might have another look

I’d go to Big Easy. It’s massive, food is good, not expensive and nobody will bat an eyelid if you’re by yourself.

R2E2 · 29/01/2026 20:18

Marugame Udon close to Canary Wharf DLR would be quick and reasonably priced, it’s very casual and you won’t feel out of place on your own.

Quella · 29/01/2026 20:37

Sipping Rooms (Drake and Morgan venue) is nice if on your own. I’m often down in CW with work and have always been happy enough to dine there solo with a book.

You mentioned Wagamama which is also fine. Ask the staff to put you at the front and you’ll be able to look out on the mall. It usually has a fair few single diners.

Also, as in Jubilee Place, just a couple of minutes from Jubilee Line.

CardiOnCardiOff · 29/01/2026 20:56

thanks all, I'm enjoying googling these. the Sipping room is a top contender at the moment!

Sorry got it wrong , they finish on Saturday. Im going tomorrow night.

CardiOnCardiOff · 29/01/2026 21:10

such a shame they don't last all weekend - seems odd to finish them on a Saturday!

Blacklock perhaps.
I've only ever dined with dates but they've always gone out of their way to welcome us.
