Am I being precious?

Is it precious to think a milestone birthday present should be wrapped up nicely, even if you know what it is? For some reason it feels a bit sad to not even have a bit of birthday wrapping paper around it to make it feel more special. It’s unlikely I’ll have any other presents to open so that’s probably why I feel like this. Maybe I should just wrap it myself rather than leave it in its postal bag. 😏

But then you won’t get to be all martyrish and sad about it

I wrap presents for myself because I like a beautifully wrapped present. I don't care if that's a bit mad.

Silverbirchleaf · 28/01/2026 18:21

It shows lack of effort and thought not to wrap it.

I don’t think I’ve ever been given and I certainly wouldn’t give a present in the postal bag.

Lazy and a real lack of effort.

Depending of who it was (assuming partner here?), I’d definitely say something.

Not precious at all! Shows a lack of care which is usually evident in other ways.

Happy birthday my lovely 🎉💐

Currentskin · 28/01/2026 18:37

Who is the gift from?

99pwithaflake · 28/01/2026 18:44

I really wouldn't care, tbh. But then I think wrapping paper and gift bags are just a waste of time and money, lol.

Endofyear · 28/01/2026 19:05

We tend to use nice gift bags rather than paper, not much wrapping paper is recyclable. And the gift bags get used again and again! I'd be a bit miffed at the lack of effort if DH gave me a gift still in its postal bag!

Yanbu i would want to unwrap at least one present on my birthday and Christmas

ginasevern · 28/01/2026 19:26

Happy Birthday OP. Your DH (presumably) has shown a lack of care on your special day which probably indicates a lack of care in other areas. I bet you treat him better on his birthday don't you.

Luckyingame · 28/01/2026 19:38

No, you are not being precious, whatever it means. I couldn't care less though, as long as the present was MY choice only.
May I ask what the milestone age is?
