How do you approach home renovations / decorating?

DH doesn’t care really about how our house looks. Our sitting room was “done up” 20 years ago and has been repainted once. Same sofas.

He also can’t get you need to maintain as you go along meaning we now need roof stuff done, a new fence and probably some windows looked at. So he’s moaning about the cost.

We get caught in a cycle of “let’s get another quote” and don’t ever get on with it!!

I've always tended to try and do at least one room a year, in terms of decorating, to spread the work / hassle / cost.

Things like fencing and roofing only when there is an issue. But, the fact there is an issue tends to make it more of a focussed search as obviously it clearly needs doing quite urgently.
