I’m 47 meeting a guy for the first time.

he want to meet in a bar - I’m not so sure
as I prefer a more sit down eat type vibe - what do you think?

A drink is good for a first date. You can keep it short and then if you want a second date you can go for dinner.

A drink in a bar is fine rather than sit down and eat as you can't get away if you don't feel the vibe and want to leave. 2 drinks max to see how he is and then arrange another date for a sit down if it went well.

I don’t think it matters either way. My only wariness would be if it’s evening drinks he is hoping to get drunk which I wouldn’t do on a first date but maybe that’s just me. Go with what you feel more comfortable with.

Meet in a bar and keep it short if no chemistry

A bar means you can just leave after one short drink if you don’t feel the vibe is right. But if he’s all up for a drinking session then you know you need to run.

yea at our age, I’m not focused on bars anymore - suppose you can only go and meet him & see if this is his regular social activity - so then may not be a match.

It’s definitely better to meet in a bar as if you don’t like him, you can leave after one drink rather than sitting the whole dinner. If you don’t fancy a bar, offer to meet for a coffee, but I wouldn’t go for dinner on the first date.

Bar is better but I'm 47 too and I'd want a seat. And the music can't be too loud. 😄

Couldn't think of anything worse than straight into dinner for a first date- what if he's awful and you're stuck there while you eat an entire meal!

Def drink in a pub or bar first, then go on for dinner from there if there's a vibe.

Bar is a good date. Well if it’s a nice bar and not a dive bar. Easier to leave if terrible.

surely a bar that serves food covers all the bases? Then you can leave or stay for food 🤷‍♀️
