Us gun deaths

Channel 4 news just reporting that in England and Wales we have c 28 gun deaths a year. In the US it averages . . . 48000 a year. Mind. Officially. Blown. I had no idea it was at that scale.

It's crazy numbers. 15 gun deaths yesterday in America. They just barely make the news. That's reserved for the mass shootings.

If you are going to take a sensible look at gun crime in the US you have to first separate out suicide by gun..its approx 58%.
then adjust for population numbers..330 million versus 70 million in the UK
then personally, I separate gan related gun crime from the rest as that is usually a very specific and targeted shooting and doesnt impact a large part of the general population. Estimates of those deaths range from 13 to 80% of homicides.

once you have those facts, then a conversation can be a little more realistic about the extent of the problem in the US versus UK

Per capita, gun deaths in the US are over 40 times higher than the UK.
