Can anyone help: how to approach booking for The Eiffel Tower - tickets or walking up?

Thanks , my dilemma is if I book the lift apparently if it's raining or not a nice day I'm stuck.

And I book tickets to one level.

Or I don't book tickets ( I can't ) and turn up on the day to walk up to the first part and then in the tower we can book tickets to the highest level ?

Any thoughts ?

I'm nervous if I don't book tickets then it could get sold out whjch would be awful.

I booked a day in advance (on New Year’s Eve, for New Year’s Day) but no lift! I could only book tickets to level 2 instead of just level 1. I booked the from the official Eiffel Tower website which was in French but I just used the translate button and it was nice and easy to do. If you book further in advance you can get the lift. You’re going to love it. I did it in -2° on NYD.

Definitely book.

You can book online using a phone so you can wait until you're actually there if you want to.

If you're going at a busier time it might be best to look in advance but if you're going in term time it probably won't be booked up anyway.

I tried walking up in March a couple of years ago - it was horrendously crowded and after an hour or so queueing with very little progress we gave up. So I suggest booking in advance!

They're all sold out for the days I want next month so we'll be chancing it on the day. Apparently this shouldn't be a problem if you turn up first thing and wait.

We went in August last year, didn't book in advance, just got there early on the day and queued, it was fine. We got the lift to the very top.

But do I need to book for walking up as well ?

We booked instead for the Montparnasse Tower following a recommendation on here.
You get views across the city and can book for the time the Eiffel Tower lights up.
Glass of champagne also available if wanted.

No, you don't need to book to walk up. We could have walked up but decided to be lazy! Walked down instead!

Yes from what I remember we did book to walk up. If you don't book in advance the chances are you will have to wait in a horrendous queue to purchase tickets and they could sell out.
