Passport renewal

I’ve completely overlooked the fact that although my passport doesn’t technically expire until October this year, the 10 years ran out last week….and I’m going away in 5th Feb.
Please reassure me and say I’ll get the new one back in time? Applied yesterday, old passport sent off this morning.

Did you do the normal service or fast track? It's a good time of year to do it, as they are fairly quiet. I've had them back in under 1 week before in Jan/Feb, when I've sent them off normally.

I’ve just renewed mine (online application, straightforward renewal) and it only took 8 days.

Same here. I sent off my old passport first week of January on a Friday and had my new passport the Friday after. I think you’ll be fine

It’s very fast and effective at the moment (one of the many non-broken things in the UK). You might be fine.

Like others I think you will probably be ok. We sent off for a first passport last week. Passport Office confirmed receipt of the supporting docs on the Wednesday, application approved on Friday evening, confirmed printed today and due to be delivered tomorrow. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻

Seems very straightforward so far, DH and I applied online on Thursday and posted old passports the same day . Mine is currently printing , so fingers crossed DH not far behind.
You can track the progress online, but they’re very good at keeping you informed .

Mine was back in a week. The biggest risk is the delivery back to you. Mine actually came before the delivery date shared by text.

Got my new one on Thursday exactly a week after I applied for it (normal procedure, not fast track). They updated me via email at each step, so you will get a good idea of how fast they are progressing. Good luck x

I'm confused. It doesn't run out til October, but the ten years ran out last week?

I sent my renewal off last week sunday 18th and it arrived on Friday 23rd! Couldn't believe how quick it was

I'm just about to do mine as it runs out in April.

The expiring passport was my first ever and I was 46. I'm worried they won't accept my new one, as I had dark hair back then, now I look older and have blonde hair (as my hair went to grey to continue dyeing it dark).

DH posted his off between Christmas and New years and got it back the following week!

Applied online on the Sunday and new passport delivered the Thursday. That was only 2 weeks ago

8 days both last month for mine, and this month for a child passport. Both should have arrived a day earlier according to tracking but delayed with Royal Mail

If there was an unexpired period left before renewal then sometimes new passports were issued with an expiry date more than 10 years after the issue date.

BUT many countries will not let you in with a passport more than 10 years after issue.

Mine took 5 days a few weeks ago. Standard service.

Got passports for both kids 2 weeks ago. 6 days and 7 days from sending off the application.
