Guy the Gorilla

I have just heard Elton John's Song for Guy on the radio, and wondered if anyone else was convinced that it was written as a tribute to the famous gorilla 🤔

No. It was for a young man who worked for the record label and was killed in an accident

🤣 no it never occurred to me. And I'm old enough to remember Guy the Gorrilla perfectly well.
But I love the idea that you thought that.

In my defence, I was a very young child, and, along with anyone else who had visited London Zoo in the seventies, was really sad about his death 😢

I do remember feeling incredibly sorry for him when I visited London Zoo as a child.

I remember him too, and Pipaluk the Polar bear.

It’s a nice idea, remembering loved animals in song though. Elsa had born free, so why not?

I loved Guy the gorilla and can remember being beyond excited when we went to see him, when I was around six. Someone had given him a paper cup, which he examined carefully, then he did a big wee in the cup, drank it, and then did it again 🤣🤣🤣.
