People getting dressed on Instagram and applying antiperspirant after dressing

Pointless thread alert.
I’ve seen several instagrammers doing GRWM, applying all sorts of creams to their faces, getting dressed in front of the camera and THEN applying antiperspirant under their clothing. To me this is weird as I always apply after showering/ before dressing. Why do they do this? Is this a new way and I’m behind the times? A bit like applying eye make up before foundation 😂 I cannot get on board with that.

If you put it on before, then when you put your clothes on, it rubs off onto the clothes.

cheeseonsofa · 25/01/2026 13:23

It stops streaks of white getting on darker clothes?

beezlebubnicky · 25/01/2026 13:25

I think it's in case it leaves marks on clothes, I often do the same as it's much easier to avoid it that way. They have 'invisible' deodorants but I'm a sweaty bitch so I need to use the industrial cream ones that you turn the wheel at the bottom to get out, those ones stain easily if you aren't careful. It can still get on your clothes but you don't get the weird marks part way down your top from catching your armpits while pulling it on

You can put it on before or after. I do either depending on when I remember.

It can still rub into clothing if you apply it when already dressed, though.

MigGirl · 25/01/2026 13:27

But if you put it on after it will still rub off onto your clothes. Surely it's better to put it on before and then let it dry before dressing.

Gliblet · 25/01/2026 13:27

I do this with some tops and dresses, if they're stretchy or clingy they scrunch up in the wet deodorant under your arms and then when you pull them down you end up with random wet blobs (and later white marks) in odd places because of the way material scrunches up.

99pwithaflake · 25/01/2026 13:29

Everyone saying it's to stop marks on clothes - isn't that even more of a reason to do it before you get dressed, so it has a chance to dry?

BunfightBetty · 25/01/2026 13:29

No idea, it doesn’t work as well if you put it on after dressing, as it all gets wiped off onto the clothes. But then, posting a video of yourself getting ready and other people liking to watch that is odd to me anyway, so what do I know?!

Funnywonder · 25/01/2026 13:36

Had to google GRWM. Watching people’s routines? Bloody hell! FWIW I put mine on before I get dressed. Unless I forget, in which case it goes on underneath. Either way, it does the job.

mynameiscalypso · 25/01/2026 13:39

This has been bothering me too! I always thought you needed time for deodorant to dry on your skin before you put clothes on. I sort of assumed they did it because it was more aesthetically pleasing, in as much as watching someone put deodorant on can ever be that.

DrFoxtrot · 25/01/2026 13:44

I have to say I don’t search out videos of this 😂 they sometimes come on my feed and I just watch in a nosey sort of way.

That's the normal way to do it: put it on, let it dry, get dressed.

Mind you since in my world filming yourself getting dressed is downright weird anyway so I suppose normal behaviour doesn't apply to these people .

weareallqueens · 25/01/2026 14:23

Is the new thing not supposed to be that you put it on at night? There are YouTube videos about that too. 😉

3beesinmybonnet · 25/01/2026 14:25

I've always thought this was a teenage boy thing - they get sweaty, they spray their underarms underneath their t shirt, the spray soaks into the fabric along with the sweat and when the t shirt is washed it solidifies into a smelly crispy mess in the armpits that nothing will shift.

vanillaskin · 25/01/2026 16:23

I do mine at night as it says to on the packet. Works great

Disturbia81 · 25/01/2026 16:31

I put on before and after, why not?

ResusciAnnie · 25/01/2026 16:33

I put mine on afterwards, mainly because it’s never where I am getting dressed and have to go down to get the one in my work bag.

I do also do eye makeup and then foundation. Maybe I’m messy but always get eyeshadow fallout/mascara smudges, why would I want that to ruin my foundation/concealer?

It doesn't help. The problem isn't it being wet. The problem is the white powdery crap that is left behind. And it's there no matter how many hours passed since you applied it.
Having said that, the proper way to use deodorant is to apply it in the evening. And that seems to do the trick. But then it won't work for some who likes to shower in the morning.

Thanks for this tip!! I also use that deodorant and the marks down the sides do my head in! It had never occurred to me to put it on after dressing, still sounds weird but I might try it next time I’m wearing a dark top

weareallqueens · 25/01/2026 20:20

I put mine on after the shower then dry it with my hairdryer. That might just be me though.

OriginalUsername2 · 25/01/2026 20:26

I’ve learned to put it on under my clothes to prevent myself breathing it in and tasting it 😆Plus it stops the white marks on my bras and tops.
