Scammed into buying a gift card - is there anything I can do?

I am going through a tough time at the moment and idiotically fell for a gift card scam. Someone hacked a friend's email and got me to buy a £100 card for a tech company whose products I don't use. Fortunately I came to my senses before doing what they wanted me to to activate it, but now I am left with a card I don't want. The third party retailer I bought it from won't refund it and my credit card company aren't interested as the scammer didn't actually get the benefit. Short of trying to find someone who will buy it off me is there anything I can do?

Maybe sell it on eBay or something? You’ve gone down every Avenue possible to get a refund and can’t, so there are no other options that I can see. So sorry, scammers are such shitty people. They don’t care who, or how, they impact people.

There’s a subreddit for selling gift cards but if you are new to Reddit it might seem as though you are scamming.

could you put it on Marketplace for £80ish?

Is there anyone you would usually spend that amount on a present for? If so buy them something with it and keep it aside for their birthday or Christmas.

Yes I think I will try Marketplace. The local one doesn't seem to have them as a banned item. Thanks for the suggestions.

It does not sound like this was fair practice. Report to Action Fraud - they are very helpful: https://www.reportfraud.police.uk/

Use a legitimate website like Cardyard or Cards2cash to sell it. They take a percentage of the value, but you’re guaranteed a clean transaction. Don’t sell on Marketplace - you’re just likely to run into more scammers there.

Could you buy something with it that could be easy to sell , maybe something in the sale that you could then sell on for more in a few weeks ? Coz I would totally be worried about being scammed again with someone buying the gift card.
