Do you feel body confident?

DriveVerySlowlyPastNumber23IWantThemToSeeMyHat · 24/01/2026 22:46

Size 18-20. Bought yet another dress from Vinted that only draws attention to my stomach.

I was about to throw it in the pile of 'I'll fit into this one day' but now I'm thinking do I just rock it?

Would love to know people's tips on how to be body confident 😊

I don’t feel body confident at all but I have just watched 90 Day Fiancé UK and my goodness it has made me feel like a goddess 😄.
Im astounded by the seeming confidence of some of the women.

In seriousness I do judge myself incredibly harshly but then find some plus size women very beautiful so it doesn’t really make sense, like everyone else can look lovely in sleeveless dress but absolutely not me.
Motsi Mabuse (pre weight loss jabs) was to me the absolute epitome of a beautiful woman but if I was that size I’d detest myself.

thankfulnessisnotbizarre · 24/01/2026 23:00

go down to 14,5 ...that will be spot on

henlake7 · 24/01/2026 23:04

Nope, got down to a size 8/10 and all I can see is the wobbly bits from weight loss!
And given all the minor aches, pains, niggles and perimenopause kicking my arse I don't feel body confident from a health pov either.
But at some point you just have to say 'feck it!' and work with what you have!😄

IPM · 24/01/2026 23:05

I'm 56, size 10 with a bit of a menopausal paunch.

I'm pretty body confident but I make sure I dress to suit my menopausal figure, rather than how I used to dress - which was mostly skinny jeans, tight tops or bodycon dresses.

And shape underwear is a Godsend!

ThrowingDi · 24/01/2026 23:07

I do and I don’t. I’m in my 20s and slim hourglass so know I’m attractive in a sense. But my personality type isn’t super feminine or body confident, so I’m more comfortable not dressing to flaunt my body. But like, if I had to wear a dress I would feel okay. I just prefer more loose, casual fits.

Disturbia81 · 24/01/2026 23:13

Yes more than I ever have in my mid 40s.

PixieDust91 · 24/01/2026 23:14

If I was a size 18-20, I would have 0% self confidence.

Why are you so big? I used to be massively fat as well but because I was sick and tired of being fat and miserable and looking like absolute crap with all the fat on me, I started eating less and being active.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/01/2026 23:14

No - I’m in peri menopause and have gone from a 10/12 to a solid 12 since starting HRT. I know I’m not huge but my body has changed a lot and I now have a tummy which I didn’t ever have before.

I try to remind myself I am strong, I lift weights and do reformer Pilates, and I walk at least 10k steps every day - also that no-one is looking at a 52 year old woman and no-one cares!

It's not rude to ask OP what's causing her to be such a size?? 18-20 is not normal and society is past the point of telling fat people its okay to be fat, its not. And if you can't handle being called fat, when you are, as an adult... please grow up.

Being fat is a choice for 99% of posters.

I'm about a size 14 now and feel good. I was a size 18 and, simply put, I was not body confident. Nothing would make me either.

With all that running your mouth off, you must've lost half your bodyweight in a week.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 24/01/2026 23:27

Yes I am. I'm fat. A size 20 but I don't have any problem wearing a swimsuit . I don't give two shits what anyone thinks of me. I wear bright colours etc
Do I think I would look better slim? Hell yes!
But I am not despite spending much of my adult life trying to lose weight!

I think my size is the least interesting part of me. I am kind, loving, reasonably bright, funny.

Fat does not define me.

I'm exactly the same. I'm stronger and fitter than I've ever been, but I'm also wobblier, a dress size bigger and a stone heavier than the weight I felt best. I'm not eating more, my body just seems to cling grimly to every calorie and fat molecule.

Day to day I can ignore it but I've spent the afternoon trying on dresses for an event on changing rooms with hideous mirrors and lighting. I am very depressed.

You are a terrible shitty human being.

@Disturbia81, I really wouldn't given them any more attention.

I've just noticed they've been all over the place today, pulling pigtails and attention-seeking.

Although they did admit on one thread that they're lonely.

Still no excuse.

justtheotheronemrswembley · 25/01/2026 00:05

I've got to the point where I really don't give a stuff what other people think.

If they are shallow enough to form negative opinions of me based solely on my appearance, then that says far more about their character than it does about me.

Yes I’ve just noticed they’re being really kind to someone on a saggy skin thread, jekyll and hyde..

Loyaltotheoil · 25/01/2026 00:25

I was 22 when I met my husband, I was very skinny, anround 44 kgs for 160cm and looked younger than my age. I am now 28, 2 kids and pregnant with my third one, I have gained so much weight, my body looks floppy, my hair is thinning, and I look a lot older than my age. Not happy with myself at all. Don’t even want to weigh myself!

Nevertriedcaviar · 25/01/2026 00:33

I am now size 18, due to my prescription for restless legs, called Gabapentin. One of the side effects is weight gain, and I ve gone from a size 14 to a size 18 over the course of a few months.

I was so fed up with it that I went to the doctor's this morning and she has agreed to let me reduce the dose, so I am hoping this will help.

Pryceosh1987 · 25/01/2026 01:19

Your in a good position. You know therre is work to be done. My mother didnt work out she just rocked the dresses she wore. One piece suits that were dresses. She had 6 kids before rocking these dresses.

DriveVerySlowlyPastNumber23IWantThemToSeeMyHat · 25/01/2026 10:17

Thanks for all of your replies 😊

I definitely need to do something. I'm a yo-yo dieter but need to get my arse on track!

Body wise, it's my belly I struggle with. Everything else is fine.
