Bean burger recommendation

I’m not veggie but I prefer bean burgers. We get the frozen ones from Sainsbury’s etc and we like them but they just fall apart.
Just tried some from Lidl and they were so dry.
Has anyone had some that are good, don’t fall apart and preferably spicy!
I don’t like fake meat burgers/meat, upsets my stomach,

Is that the Plant Pioneers frozen ones from sainsburys, ? i find they do need careful handling when cooking, I bake mine and have them in a bun with salad and cheese, the frozen spicy bean burgers from Aldi fare a little better, they’re nice and spicy and have some beans rather than a bean purée.

I have found these sainsburys ones to be the best texture (and really delicious) and they don’t fall apart at all during cooking, you’d have to add some spiciness to them, perhaps some kind of relish with Tabasco added, or sliced jalapeños 🌶️ or a slice of chilli cheddar (or both!)

I find those Morrisons ones also fall apart. It’s not when they are cooking, more in the burger itself, they’re just too soft. I’ll try those other Sainsbury’s ones.

@CalzoneOnLegs
I agree, I bought those the other day (yellow sticker but not that much off). The first one I liked the texture but it was sooooo bland. The second one, I added some onion powder and cayenne pepper and it was so much better.

I miss the Wimpey spicy beanburgers.

@Mochudubh i find any bean or veggie burger is enhanced with cheese, onions relish etc. probably the same applies to meat ones ?

I’ve never had a Wimpy SBB but I do remember the BK ones they were lovely, we have one of the only remaining Wimpys in our county in Swanage !

SBB’s do seem to have had a comeback though I remember when you couldn’t buy them in stores.

Try the Plant Menu spicy bean burgers from the freezer section in Aldi.
They're bloody lovely 😍

good life frozen ones (waitrose) are nice, not totally break up proof but not dry and not too bad as long as you don't cram too much else into the bun like we do

Knittedanimal · 24/01/2026 20:56

The Aldi spicy beanburger is lovely.

Nomnomnew · 24/01/2026 20:59

We like the Tesco plant chef ones but you do have to cook them longer than the packet says.

Iceland does a lovely spicy nacho bean burger. I haven’t tried eating it as a proper burger in a bun as I usually just have it with chips and salad, but it’s really lovely. I used to stock up when I was at my mum’s as there was an Iceland across the road.

Another one recommending these! 👌

Pasta4Dinner · 24/01/2026 21:13

There’s an Iceland next to my gym so I’ll try them next.
I will try them all as I would like to have one I really like, no Waitrose near me though.

My parents raised us vegetarian and my mom makes her own patties for our burgers. Even when I started eating meat, I preferred her vegetarian patties to the meat ones. She didn't use any black beans, and added carrots, some potatoes, and other veggies like mushrooms. I found a recipe most similar to her's and shared below. You can also google recipes and go with a high star one! They all sound good haha

Here's one I found: https://healthfulblondie.com/best-no-bean-veggie-burger/

*Note- my mom did not add any walnuts or oats

Edited to add: there's plenty of bean burger recipes with rave reviews! I just shared one without since trying both multiple times, I like the texture and flavor without :P

Best Veggie Burger Recipe

The best no-bean veggie burger recipe! They're crispy, moist, packed with flavor, and made with brown rice, peas, carrots, and mushrooms. A healthier and tastier option to store-bought patties!

The goodlife ones that have been mentioned before, sold in Waitrose are a hit here.
