The entertainment for my son's party has cancelled last minute. I need aome help with games if anyone can suggest games to keep 30 7 year old occupied and entertained I'd be very grateful. My son's a wheelchair user so not too much running around

Treasure hunt, pass the parcel? Can you get some craft sets/ Lego in before it starts? Good luck x

NuffSaidSam · 24/01/2026 11:42

A themed craft or something like decorating biscuits/cakes.

Some kind of ball game e.g. get some jars/tubs/buckets put a prize in each one, they have to throw a ball and if they get in into a jar they win that prize. Or basketball or similar. Or darts. Some kind of throwing something at something!

It's a lot of kids to entertain!! Do you know anyone who could step in and do some magic tricks/jokes or anything!! It's numbers where you really need them sat down watching something.

I had this at my DD’s 4th birthday when the guy bringing the animals had his van break down on the way Shock
We went for musical bumps, musical statues (you could call out things to freeze as as they are a bit older), Simon Says, the game where you play music, when it stops they run to one of 3/4 preciously arranged spots (maybe corners of the room) and someone with their back turns calls out one and everyone there is out). Make sure you put in a game of sleeping lions when you need a bit of peace and quiet! Just get lots of prizes and keep doling them out. And a big pat on the back when it’s over!

Can you go back to the old fashioned stuff we used to do?

Dried peas in a bowl. Suck up through a straw and move to another bowl. First to transfer them all is the winner. You could do it in groups and a play off for the winners of each group. You could put them on a table, so your son can easily take part.

Dress up in hat , scarf, gloves and cut up chocolate with a knife and fork.

Pin the tail on the donkey, or whatever animal you choose.

In teams, pass a balloon over head to the person behind. The first person then moves to the back and you start again, until everyone has been at the front.

If you have adults helping, you could do things in groups, with an adult in each group.

Could you do a film party - watch a film, with hotdogs, popcorn, etc? Do you know anyone with a huge box of Lego, and allow them loose on that? Large sheet of paper (wallpaper?) on the floor, and let them draw big pictures?

Sorry not musical bumps if your son can’t do that but the others would be fine - I really feel for you (I think I may have an element of PTSD from our experience as my DD is doing A levels now Grin), but it honestly wasn’t that bad.

Cookie decoration was always a hit (10 minutes) pass the very large parcel can drag on for 20 minutes with enough layers and mini prizes, musical statues can work with a wheelchair as no getting on the floor, can you get hold of lots a modelling balloons and watch a YouTube video on how to make a simple animal then get them all to copy you to make their own . (You’ll need to blow up 30+ balloons in advance) I’d also see if you can co-opt a couple more helpers because you can’t just hand over to the entertainment.

Apple bobbing is another old fashioned one, have two bowls at a time even 3 for this many and it a healthy snack

OneNeatCat · 24/01/2026 11:55

What was the entertainment?

Hopeful16 · 24/01/2026 11:57

Corners - best game for kids EVER! 4 different pics of interest (superheroes, cartoon characters, foods, whatever) one in each corner. Play music and when it stops they go to a corner. Have 4 small copies of the pics - pull one out and the kids at that corner are out. Keep going til you have a winner. I promise, they love it. Good luck.

ItsPronouncedThroatwobblerMangrove · 24/01/2026 11:58

30 is a lot! Can you take some of these ideas and set them up at six points in the venue, then divide the children into groups of five, each group does one game then moves on to the next? An adult at each game station so they’re not just destroying everything? Then it stops them getting bored because they are always moving to the next thing?

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 24/01/2026 11:58

Splat, corners, pin the tail on the donkey, musical statues, wink murder (not sure if that one’s been renamed nowadays)

theres one where I’ve forgotten the name- but the kids are in a circle and there’s a leader who mimes playing an instrument. Everyone copies. They change instrument periodically. There is one child in the middle who has to try and guess who the leader is

parietal · 24/01/2026 12:01

30 is a v big group. If you can set up a big screen and a 20 min Tv show, then a movie party would work.

grandmothers footsteps is good.

and musical statues.

cartagenagina · 24/01/2026 12:04

Dead fishes is my favourite. 😆

dollyblue01 · 24/01/2026 12:08

Pass the parcel, stick the tail in the donkey, please don’t use the dreid peas one as it’s a choking hazard if they sulk too hard. Musical chairs or just who can stop to the music.
