Which hours would you pick

booked A dream holiday for the summer and they have a superb Crèche our baby goes to nursery and I think some sessions at the crèche will do him some good and let us enjoy a few hours of peace. They offer these sessions 10:00 – 13:00, 13:00 – 15:00, 15:00 – 18:00. He naps around lunch time but that could all change as he’ll be 18 months on the holiday. Which sessions would you pick I did think a mixture would be an idea.

What would you most like to do on your own when baby is in crèche? That would be the deciding factor for me.

id probably do a mix.

redlorryyellowbus · 24/01/2026 03:34

First or last session to make the most of his awake time - I expect his nap would be the middle session which is pointless!

I would actually choose the same time every day rather than a mix so it’s a solid part of the daily routine and you all (especially baby) know the expectations- new place/ people will unsettle most toddlers no matter how confident they are.

ApolloandDaphne · 24/01/2026 04:20

I would choose 10-13.00 as I like to sunbathe in the morning. Then you can pick up baby, shower and go for lunch and all have a nice siesta in the afternoon. That timing would work for me but I am not you.

It depends on what you want to do when your baby is in the creche! If you want to go out and look at things in the morning and sit by the pool in the afternoon, for instance. In that case I would probably take the baby with me in the morning so that I could relax in the afternoon, but lots of other people would prefer it the other way around.

tinedfish · 24/01/2026 16:10

We just want to have a break to read sunbath eat alone or catch up on some sleep so that when we are with our baby we can have lots energy to run around with him

I would do 10-1300. He could be tired by the later ones , especially in the heat.

Delatron · 24/01/2026 16:18

I’d do 10-13 mainly. Defo avoid lunch as he’d probably be napping. That way you’d have the morning free until 1. Then he’d probably sleep for a few hours.

If you wanted a nice late lunch one day or an afternoon trip I’d do the 3-6 slot.

Fundays12 · 24/01/2026 16:19

First or last session although being honest I wouldn't use a crèche overseas at all. I worked as a holiday representative and heard to many horror stories.

mrssunshinexxx · 24/01/2026 16:23

I’m with @Fundays12

I wouldn't dump them in a crèche as I wouldn't be able to relax. I would prefer them with me.

She didn’t ask that question- so unhelpful!

mummybearSW19 · 24/01/2026 17:28

10-1 couple of days.
1-3 a couple of days
I’d only do the last session of the day if there is something specific you wanted to do
enjoy!

Exactly! You put them in nursery so you can work but now you had the time you don’t want them!

@tinedfish why would it do him good to go to childcare in a foreign country with people he’s never met? I can understand an 8 yo wanting to make some holiday mates but I honestly can’t see any benefit to him at all (at this age).

Why bother spending time with the noisy wee brats for the whole holiday? What idiot goes on holiday to actually spend time with their DC? That's insane 😂Just enjoy the peace and tranquility. Chill out and enjoy the massage, have a drinky poo and pick them up again on the way back for your flight home.

Or....just enjoy them when they are this tiny as soon they'll be jetting off without you!

converseandjeans · 24/01/2026 17:42

If you do have to do this then I guess he would be better off going in the morning & you get most of day to relax as he would be in crèche 10-1 then presumably napping 1-2.30/3.

It's a benefit to the parents on their dream holiday that's all that matters🤷‍♀️

Haribomum7 · 24/01/2026 17:47

I’d pick the morning. Enjoy some me time, read a book? Have a swim and then enjoy some afternoon time with the baby. I put mine in kids clubs and crèches and they always loved it and it gave everyone a well deserved break. Staff are usually well trained and kids have lots of fun. Enjoy your holiday!

Haribomum7 · 24/01/2026 17:51

I do wonder whether all
the haters actually have kids 😂😂😂 you can love your kids and still put them in a crèche for a few hours a day. It leaves loads of hours to enjoy with them but it gives everyone chance to also have some me time. Probably makes you better parents.

Yes I have two. They are now 25 and 21. Holidays with your young chn are so fleeting. I loved them. DH gave me time to shop or peace on the beach or whatever and I did the same for him if he wanted some time alone. Most of the time we just wanted to be together as that time is so precious. It’s being a parent. My chn were with someone that loved them.

mrssunshinexxx · 24/01/2026 18:11

@Haribomum7 yes I have 3 under 5. No family support. None of them in nursery until they could speak.

Gabbycat245 · 24/01/2026 18:24

Judging by the standard of people I know who worked in holiday crèches abroad, I wouldn't use one at all (yes, I have a young child).

But as that's not what you asked, I would pick the morning slot each day.

Yes but OP stated that some hours in the crèche would do him some good! I honestly don’t believe a baby would prefer some random looking after him in a foreign country? It’s definitely for the benefit of the parent.
