I’m about to have an empty house for 8 or so months and just wondered if it was worth to considering air bnb to get some income off it or if it’s an absolute no go

Following - I’d be interested in this too.

My parents do! It was a good source of income but they did need someone present that could go in in case of an emergency quite often.
I wouldn’t do it if you don’t have anyone nearby and will be living abroad for the next 8 months for example.

I do, it’s good income but a lot of work. There’s cleaning and bedding, towels etc…. To be changed regularlly (don’t forget, it’s not always regular, as some people will book for a week, others three nights etc….) . You need to build in that flexibility.
Every staying guest is different, most will need some help… WiFi, cooker, shower, keys etc…
You also need to be nearby to make sure there’s no problem! We’ve been used as a stag weekend once!! And a brothel!

generally most people are lovely, but I would caution not having someone overseeing things

You let your place be used as a brothel?

Are you planning on managing it yourself or using a management company?

DH and I were both working abroad for several months of each year and did this. We had a company manage it for us though- provided cleaning, managed listings etc. Very different to managing it yourself. The earlier the availability was listed, the more bookings we had. You can set it so you have a minimum of say 2/3/4 night booking so you aren't doing a turn around daily. Note that some places limit holiday lets to 3mths total in a 12mth period.

Not my own home, no. People smash shit all the time. Bash luggage against walls. We’ve gone through 2 washing machines in 4 years. I would never air b and b my own home.

🤣 of course I didn’t!!
I booked it out to three young girls for a week!!
The neighbours then called me complaining about the number of men and cars that were coming and going all day and all night!!
I called the police, but by the time they did anything they had left.

Well with all the exclamation marks it wasn't clear - looked like you thought it was funny.

In hindsight it was.

No, it really wasn’t.
