Costumes for school

I wonder how many costumes are sold each year due to the curriculum e.g. ancient Egyptian era, Victorian child etc.

Don’t forget world book day, Christmas show, Christmas party day and Christmas jumper day.

Do your kids dress up for that kind of thing? Back in the 90's my primary school seemed to find a reason for us to dress as victorians at least a couple of times a year, but my own kids schools are surprisingly light on the dress ups.

They do ask for Christmas jumpers, but they're worn for Xmas play, Xmas lunch, Xmas party day, the last day of term and Xmas music concert, so I can't really complain. We generally get them handed down from cousins, keep them 2-3 years then pass them on.

One of my kids schools does pajamas on book day (kind of bed time story themed). The other does dress up, but we've nether bought specifically for it, we just re-use dress up stuff we already have. One dinosaur costume has now done 8 Halloweens and 5 book days (between 2 kids)

We’re also quite light on dressing up. WBD is the only actual dress up I think, other days are variants of ‘wear something festive’ / odd socks / a bright T-shirt. Christmas play the costumes are all provided by the school, and reused every year.

I’m very grateful for this!

I either sew my son’s costumes or put them together by buying various bits from Vinted. This World Book Day he’s going as Tin-Tin 😅
