How do you know you messed it up? Have you had feedback that tells you that you didn’t get the role and areas to improve in for next time?
Don’t beat yourself up - we’ve all judged ourselves harshly. If there is feedback use that to build your responses for next time - it isn’t the end of the road by any means :)

How do you know you’ve messed up?

I totally messed up my last interview (I had to keep asking them to remind me what the question was). I got the job - so don’t give up!

Wow, thanks for the swift replies, much appreciated.

Having been the interviewer lots of times previously, I wouldn’t be at all put off by this - it’s a great strategy to keep you on track if you’ve forgotten in what is a stressful situation. You obviously answered really well 😊

Well, the feedback wasn’t great but who cares. I like to think I make up for things with a lot of interview enthusiasm and liveliness.

How do I know, I messed up, It was am interview, hadn't consumed any coffee to help wake me up so words were just coming out my mouth. I answered some questions well, but one of the questions, I just waffled endlessly...... anyway it was my first interview since leaving my job last November 2025....

Be kind to yourself!
it felt to you that you waffled - you may not have done! Wait and see what they say and don’t beat yourself up.
Spin this view around - you got an interview; really well done, not everyone does! If you don’t get this job, there’ll be another interview - you got this one, you can get another.
when are you expecting to hear back, did they tell you?
Reward yourself this weekend for getting this far and, take a note that, should you not get this job, for the next interview you know what to expect and have a coffee up front! 😉

This is exactly what happened to me, at my last interview. I also got the job!

LetRip · 23/01/2026 18:26

So it wasn’t a complete flop if you answered some questions well! take it as interview experience and make sure coffee beforehand. Who knows, maybe you got the job

mynameiscalypso · 23/01/2026 18:26

I feel your pain! I had a job interview today and it was really not great. The recruiter had given me some advice as to areas the would be interested in but they asked completely different types of question and I don’t think I answered them well at all, very rambling and fluffy without much specific content. I’m very disappointed in myself because I know I am an excellent candidate for the role.
