Help to find the right kind of therapist for my son.

My son (22) needs and wants to have someone to talk to. This will be done privately. But I need to know the correct person to send him to see. He has medical problems , anxiety , sleeping insomnia.

He used to see a councillor at his high school and it seemed to help. But that was a few years ago. And he said he thinks doing this again would really help. I’m just not sure who. I did look it up but there are so many different ones.
this is nothing to do with our doctors surgery. I suspect that the waiting list to see anyone on the nhs would be long. Also getting an appointment for my doctor is weeks. so wondered if anyone on here would have a good idea.

You can look on the BACP website for BACP-registered therapists. The website tells you the modality the therapist works within, so you can try to work out if it might be a good fit.

I would have a look at what services are available locally first, we can self refer in our area and I didn't have to wait long at all to see a counsellor, less than a month.
